Setting Up the Rolling Cache?

Featured Replies

Has anyone set up a large rolling cache? I've been looking at the loading spinner for 10 minutes now. Can anyone give an estimate how long it takes to create a rolling cache?

Yes, I set it up for (don't laugh) 1.5TB on a M.2 SSD. It took about an hour.

Ok, that's not too bad then! Don't worry I think everyone on this board fully understands 😃. Thanks. I'm gonna start with 500 GiB

I wish somebody would explain how it works to download a region without flying it. I understand that you define a rectangle on a grid and wait for the download to proceed and then save under the file name you choose . Is that it ?

So... it's done now. It took 1,5 hours to create a 500GiB cache.

What’s the advantage to having such a huge rolling cache?

Does it reduce lag and stutters when flying for long periods over large areas?

Does it save time in downloading areas to fly and what happens when you fill it up?

I've noticed sometimes it takes a while until the high res textures pop in. Not 100% sure this is due to network lag but I'll see soon enough if there's any positive effects. Anyways, 500 gigs feels like nothing after dealing with ortho4xp. I'm looking forward to the day when I can delete them...
