It seems the default 172 and 152 have the fuel shutoff in the off position by default. Which makes no sense. What also makes no sense is that the mixture lever defaults to full rich....

Cold and dark?

Not sure about the mixture lever.  It may be following a hardware mixture control

Cold and dark yep. It’s definitely not. I always start with my mixture lever down, but when I load into the sim the planes default to up.

IRL the fuel shutoff is never turned off unless there is an engine fire scenario. Mixture is always pulled all the way out as a means of shutting the airplane off, and it is left all the way out until it’s time to prime.

Make sure you push CTRL+V to turn on fuel valve, i noticed some aircraft do not simulate or have a fuel cut off switch.

I'll have to check the numerous real world POHs I have.  I know there is a flight sim convention that has the cold and dark fuel control set to off.

I do remember off the top of my head that the Beaver has an emergency fuel and oil cutoff, which is wired in the open position. The Stearman has instructions when stopping engine "Fuel Cock Control "OFF" Position".  I don't fly modern aircraft often enough to have researched their POH.

Not sure what the problem might be with mixture lever.

Over 41 hours right now in the Skyhawk have not had one issue with starting it, once I land at St.Pt I can even show live if you need it!
