August 23, 20214 yr 32 at 3600 worked for me . after running other non FS2020 software i returned the 128gb of 4000 since i did not see a huge benefit maybe in the future ill try 4000 again but as of today aug 22 32 at 3600 is working fine for me . Image removed as image is no longer available.

If yes, by how much more performance did you observe? And lastly, is there a RAM sweet spot that offers both max performance vs. cost that you can recommend? Today will be the day I whittle down my RAM choices and I will submit my purchase order for the computer, tomorrow. Thanks! That is not a simple question. It depends on your hardware. For starters AMD system (particularly if you overclock) are a lot more sensitive to RAM and latency and frequency. Intel systems on the other hand, it makes virtually no difference unless you have a K processor and a motherboard that can overclock the RAM as your fast RAM will default back to generic settings on a non-overclock motherboard and even if you do overclock the difference is not massive. TLDR - AMD it matters - Intel , not so much Edited August 23, 20214 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick

I have no observations as to MSFS and ram latency because I've never tested it. I mean in general, I weight CAS Latency over raw speed. I don't know of any testing done by anyone on that, but maybe someone knows of something. I'd check on the official MSFS forums as well. August 23, 20214 yr I haven't really done all that much specific testing on RAM frequency, although I have tried a few options which may be of interest. My specs are in my sig.. however, what I can tell you with AMD processing and RAM frequency is as follows.... Higher frequency decreases load times on starting the sim. (proven by testing) 2 sticks of 32gig 3600 is not as effective as 4 sticks of 16gig at 3600 (proven by testing) 3600 frequency is useless if your motherboard and the rest of your system doesn't fully support it. Overclocking, or increasing/decreasing the frequency of RAM via BIOS or other methods such as AMD software will almost always give you a CTD in MSFS2020. (proven by testing) The best solution I have found.. to date... is 4 sticks of 16gig RAM operating at 3600 in my motherboard with my processor amd my GPU and everythging set to default.. no overclocking, undervoltage.. no adjustments from default in any way whatsoever.. Anecdotally, and I haven't attempted to prove this, it seems to me that 3600 RAM is better than 3200 RAM for preventing stutters etc when looking round the aircraft after SU5.. perhaps it's just moving info about that little bit faster, but as I say.. this might well be a percieved benefit rather than an actual one.. as I say, I haven't done any empirical testing. I know this isn't the full answer, or anything close.. just observations from the edge 🙂 Graham Edited August 23, 20214 yr by Moria15 System specs... August 26, 20214 yr I can only underline what Graham was pointing out already. To select the RAM - the compatibility list of the manufacturer from your motherboard is your best friend. Beside other components - the RAM is essential for the general system performance. Choose the fastest RAM with the lowest latency you can use according to the list. Look for double sided ! Always buy sets of RAM, not single pieces. For 32 Gb 2 x16 or for 64 GB 4x16 (not 2 sets 2x16) eg. Sets in general are a bit more expensive, but the manufacturer sorted out the best matching RAM. Important for AMD: Leave all at default settings. Check that the settings in the BIOS are according to your RAM. No overclocking, undervoltage eg.... as Graham mentioned. MSFS and overclocking are not the best friends (AMD esp. but Intel too). In the case you use 2 pieces of RAM - use the right memory slot. In general A2 / B2. It is not recommended to buy another single piece to get more RAM. Due to current chipdesign - a set with 4x16 GB has a better performace as a set with 2x32 GB. For MSFS 32 GB RAM are more than sufficient. MS/Asobo can't pull up the RAM usage due to the same core for PC and XBOX. This would slaughter the XBOX at least. Highest RAM usage I've ever noticed - 24 GB (I have 32 GB RAM / 12 GB VRAM). For a long time I had 16 GB and MSFS was running without any problems. Best regards Detlef

After SU5, even with LODs forced at 400 and 900 I rarely see more than 6 GB used by the sim (via developer's mode) and 13-14 GB for the whole system. We will see the requirements after they introduce the preloaded radius slider, but 32 GB will continue to be overkill for sure. 7800X3D | 2x32 GB DDR5-6000 CL32 | RTX 5080 | Alienware OLED 34" | 1 Gbps fiber
