August 30, 20205 yr Another place I've been to a few times, and never seen a good version in a sim until now. Looking forward to being able to explore some of these places in a helicopter or paramotor or similar eventually. Jackson Square, with the French Quarter around and behind it and the wonderful Cafe du Monde in the French Market building to the right at the bottom of the shot. Truly wonderful coffee and beignets (donuts) to be had there and reason enough in itself to visit the city The French Quarter Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

August 30, 20205 yr Great that you've been there a "few" times...I've visited it once...many years ago...via a road-trip from Chicago to New Orleans with one (en-route) stop...was a long drive...🙂...preferred driving to flying those days. If I recall, correctly, stayed in the Downtown Marriott....should be in there in your #3, but cannot find it now...will look some more... Also, had enjoyed a sea-food Combo dinner somewhere there (in your shots) at a Restaurant, that a "native" had recommended....the Riverwalk, I recall well too... Wonderful pictures, all, here,...amazing details...(the SIM shows...!)...brings back old memories....thanks...!! Yes, a Heli would be perfect for this...!!

This sim is crying out for a helicopter or three, but I don't miss them quite as much as I thought I would now that I'm getting to grips with the drone cam. I'm not much of a "flying" kind of guy, I don't yearn for a heli so that I can practice and hone my choppering "skills" (I use the term very loosely), I just have always liked them as a way to explore the scenery slow and up close, and the drone cam could well provide that sort of option for me, I suspect. As for the "a few times" thing, I was just lucky in that I worked as a mainframe software instructor for maybe 15 years, and got sent to all sorts of (English speaking) places to give classes. Mostly in the US and Scandinavia. Sometimes these would be "open" classes in a training centre somewhere, but often onsite for a customer. And typically, once a customer had come to us for one class, they tended to repeat the class every couple of years as they took on new staff, so lots of lovely repeat visits! Although that could also involve repeat visits to some right old places as well, but we won't go there. I did a lot of travelling back then, and that's why you'll never get me out to a real airport again. But now I feel I can go back and see these places almost as well as for real, and as you say P, if you have real memories of a place it can be quite rewarding. August 31, 20205 yr Andy: Your experience puts you in the right mindset to (properly) explore and sightsee MSFS, I can tell....🙂... Focusing, here, on just your 3rd screenshot, I did a bit of (SIM vs. Memory) comparison with what I could remember of my New Orleans trip from a decade or so ago (consulted with my better half...🙂...always a bit better in the memory department...): I know things and buildings have probably changed since, but, with your permission, I've included here your Screenshot #3, with a bit of (added) Red markings...see below... Marriott is marked with Red No. 1, where I'd stayed, for 3 days, I cannot see the typical (Red) "Marriott" logo on top of the building, in your shot, but, it's probably there.... The Black building next to it (marked with Red No. 2) is "Sheraton", I recall that was right across the street...(cannot tell the other (adjacent) buildings in your shot...could be new...) Had walked (back and forth) along the street (see Red marked line) from Marriott to French Market/French Quarter everyday...there were many Creole Restaurants along that street, or the parallel streets behind it...the Restaurant, I'd mentioned above, was at the beginning of a block, I recall, most likely on the street, behind the street marked with my Red line...we can easily tell where one block ends and the next block begins...amazing...(autogen can never do this, no matter, how pretty, it looks...) Often parked my car in the lot, partially, seen in your shot, (see Red No. 3), one of those cars could have been very well be mine...🙂....and, at the end of that Parking Lot, to the Right (outside of your shot), is, I believe, the (Jackson Square) departure spot for "Steamboat Nachez", which I'd taken for a Sunday Brunch Cruise (still have a picture of it...)....A traditional Louisiana Gumbo (a mix of Spicy Rice/Chicken/Sausage "etc.?" - for folks not familiar with "Gumbo") was, of course, on the Menu...not a big fan of it...🙂...but had enjoyed it all the same....while on the river cruise.... French Quarter, as usual, was wild (even outside of Mardi Gras time)....A "native" colleague had specifically fore-warned me to be careful about not trying the (potent) "concoction" drinks there...🙂....especially with names like "Hurricane" and "Hand Grenade"...etc...(those days are/were long gone anyway...), so, I stayed clear, and, instead, had kept safe with a couple of Beers.... All in all....your sightseeing pictures are quite evocative, same as Google Earth, but, we can now actually fly virtually our virtual planes (and, Helis, soon, I hope) right over them....that's wonderful....! [Not sure what's going on there, these days...] Thanks again...!!
September 1, 20205 yr I think this expansion to "....I can fly over my house!" generated by the new sim is great! I'm really not that bothered with flight models, study level tubeliners etc (but all power to those that are) - I just want to feel immersed in the places I can visit. I plan to go and take a slow flight over the Garden District and see how that looks. My first visit to New Orleans was pure holiday, and as it happens I'd just started reading Anne Rice's "The Witching Hour" which is set there, so I had a fun time exploring the district. I enjoyed NO then, and I'm enjoying it again now (but this time it's nowhere near as sweaty and sticky!)
