Minimum specs for flyability

Featured Replies

I've had the sim since it came out. I've been throwing everything at it I've got in reference to tweaks and tricks, but nothing is getting me to an acceptable frame rate worth playing. Here is my setup:

i5 6600k Overclocked 22%

32GB RAM

GTX 1660 SC Ultra 6GB

1920x1080 resolution

All in game settings at Low or Off.

If anyone has a similar setup and is able to fly it let me know. For me it is just constant freezes, jerkiness and stutters. Not really anywhere close to being playable for me. I know my processor is a little old, but this setup still hammers almost any game. If anyone else out there has a similar setup and is having the same issues, then maybe I'll just have to wait for my next processor upgrade.

Thanks!

I’m not too good at knowing what cpu is better than the other.. but if it helps any for your comparison, I run a I7 7700 non K with 12gb ram and a GTX 1060 6gb card. High settings, never really dips below 30fps. Clouds, no clouds, rain, no rain etc. Seems all the same for performance on my system

 Intel I7 12700KF / 32 GB Ram-3600mhz / Windows 11 - 64 bit / NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060TI / 32" Acer Monitor, Honeycomb alpha/bravo, CH rudder pedals, Tobii 5, Buttkicker, Logitech radio panel.

You should look for a used 6700K (or 7700K with a BIOS update). It would help a lot to improve the framerate and reduce stutters.

The issue with 4 core i5s is the lack of Hyperthreading that causes very often the CPU usage to reach 100%.

My spec are not so far off yours. i5 3570K o/c by a similar amount so probably 10% slower than yours.   24GB RAM.  GTX 1070 with 8GB VRAM - so slightly faster and  more memory.  1920x1200 display.

I  intend to buy a new PC in the next 6 months but I am waiting for the 3000 series Nvidia cards and I also want to see what the Zen 3 processors offer.

Currently I would say that it works  for me with the slower GA aircraft - but people vary in their definition of what is usable.

When I launch a flight there is bad stuttering in the initial video and I always wait until I can pan around the aircraft in external view smoothly before taking off.

From say London City I get 25-30fps.    Occasionally during a flight I briefly get bad stuttering/short freeze which I presume is related to scenery loading in some way - but these are sufficiently rare not to overly concern me.

My CPU constantly runs at 100%.  I have settings from medium to ultra - depending on whether they impact CPU or GPU.   I have  set the LOD sliders to 80/90.

As a stopgap measure I have done what MrFuzzy suggested above  - ordered an i7-3770K on ebay  which is the best I can do with the existing motherboard. I will then sell the current processor, so the upgrade will cost me £70 or so for probably a 30% hike in total CPU power.

What do you mean by "acceptable frame rates"?
