Graphic card to use while waiting for RTX 3000 series

Featured Replies

Just building a new PC (Ryzen 5) and I haven't purchased a video card yet.

I was so close on purchasing the EVGA 2060 Super but have now decided to wait since Nvidia had their 3000 series announcement the other day.

I should probably just wait but what do you guys think about using a cheaper card temporarily, such as a GTX 710 (2GB) at basic settings just so that I can get used to the sim?

Will it be flyable?

Thanks

Two months ago I snagged a 1070 TI 8 GB for just over $300 on eBay.  It is performing quite well at 2560 x 1440 in my new system.  I imagine 1070's and 1080's are becoming more affordable.  2080 TI prices are plummeting.  What $$ amount do you want to spend in the interim?  If you are looking to a 3000 series they are not that far away, availability after release pending.  How long before your new build is ready? Anyway?

Hi Frank, The PC should be ready next week. I really didn't want to spend a lot on a video card pending the new releases. Perhaps I should just wait for a few months then.

I was thinking that if I could spend about $100 and get descent performance, even at the basic settings, then it may be worth it for the short time.

I have a 4 GB GTX 970 I just pulled two months ago in favor of the 1070 TI.  I pulled it because it appeared bare minimum at best for MSFS.  I would not recommend it for MSFS and 970's that are clean are going for >$125.00.  A well written auction for say $150.00.  That was last week.  Check 1070 TI's on eBay and see where they are now because this one is so far splendidly smooth with settings on high across the board at 2560 X 1440.

EVGA 1070 TI's 8GB are in the $250 - $280 range.

Depends on what "the sim" is..

For FSX, sure.. for MSFS.. No.

1070 at 8 GB is a good choice, as recommended by Frank.

The 3000 Series will be available from the 24th September.

My eVGA 1660 (non Super) w 6GB VRAM works fine at High settings... QHD (2560x1440) resolution. I was going to get a 2070 Super so I can set the game to Ultra but have now decided to wait for the 3070.

3080 is the right choice for MSFS?   Just setting up my new pc build and will put a 3000 series card in it.
