Force Run as Admin always (live weather issues)?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know a way to force the exe to run as admin every time, rather than having to right click it, run as administrator?

I gained access to the area of files, right clicked on the exe and set it to be administrator, but each time the sim loads it doesnt launch as such.

This is needed, because for me (and some others) its the only way live weather ever seems to work, or at least consistently.

Thanks in advance

The option to 'Run as Administrator' for the MSFS shortcut by right clicking is available.  However the option under Properties > Shortcut > Advanced is greyed out.  Most likely done on purpose by MS.  Creating a shortcut of the shortcut is also greyed out.

This seems to happen when a shortcut points to an object identifier rather than a directory path.  I've done some research and haven't really seen a a solution yet that is simple.

If I find something I will post here for you.

Can't you just access from the start menu, right-click MSFS2020, select More and then select Run as Admin?

Sure, but i cant tell you how many times i've forgotten and had to dig through task man to kill the process and start over.  There needs to be a way to force it, hopefully.

Unless I missed something, I believe that is precisely what he stated he was trying to avoid.  In other words, he is looking for an option to always have the startup run as Admin simply by clicking on the icon, like was done with past sims.  He said:

Try to go to this location. Inside you'll find flightsimulator.exe right click, properties, compatibility and check the 'run as admin'. Now you cant run it straight from the file but i think that the app shortcut will run it as admin anyway.

I guess this also depends on if you have the Steam install. If so, it all seems to work as normal as far as the shortcut options. The MS Store install is all kinds of different and encrypted/protected, etc. It's the whole reason I purchased in Steam.

No harm no foul brother!  If I had a dollar/euro for every time I did that...   I wrote that just to avoid others going down the wrong path.

Been a long time since our posts have crossed paths, happy to see you again and I hope you are well my friend.

Thanks Dave - all is well is over here, at least as much as one can in this era of Covid.
