September 16, 20205 yr I have been having some problems lately with my flights crashing to desktop. It has gotten to the point of now even being able to get flying before it happens. I think I need to reinstall or repair my installation but I don't want to have to reinstall all my scenery, aircraft and airports or mess up my settings. Is this possible? i7 8700K CPU @ 4.8 GHz, 32 GB DDR4 3000 memory, Gigabyte Aorus Z370 MB, EVGA RTX 2060 Super XC Ultra GPU 8GB GDDR6 Memory, MasterAir MA610P CPU cooler, 1T PCIe NVMe SSD, 500GB SSD, 2T HDD, 3 Asus 24" monitors, Saitek X56 Rhino H.O.T.A.S., Altec Surround Sound System.
September 16, 20205 yr Go into windows settings then open Apps then scroll down to P3D academic client, left click then uninstall but when it ask if you want to deactivate click no, then backup your P3D config file then delete the config, re-install the client start P3D it will build a new config you will now be back to default settings, use P3D in the default setting to see if the problem has gone if OK then tweak your settings. In fact you can do this with three of the folders client , content , scenery without affecting you addons. Raymond Fry.
September 16, 20205 yr There is an option in 'Add & Remove programs' , right click on the Client ( or Content, scenery) and you should see the option to repair. bob
September 16, 20205 yr Author Thanks for getting back to me. I just want to make sure I don't delete all my ORBX scenery and airports and A2A aircraft. I did a reinstalled about a year ago and it zapped all that stuff. It took me a couple of days to get it all back in and running right. I knew there was a repair option but I didn't know if I could trust it. i7 8700K CPU @ 4.8 GHz, 32 GB DDR4 3000 memory, Gigabyte Aorus Z370 MB, EVGA RTX 2060 Super XC Ultra GPU 8GB GDDR6 Memory, MasterAir MA610P CPU cooler, 1T PCIe NVMe SSD, 500GB SSD, 2T HDD, 3 Asus 24" monitors, Saitek X56 Rhino H.O.T.A.S., Altec Surround Sound System.

Shouldn't I copy the config file before I uninstall and reinstall the client? i7 8700K CPU @ 4.8 GHz, 32 GB DDR4 3000 memory, Gigabyte Aorus Z370 MB, EVGA RTX 2060 Super XC Ultra GPU 8GB GDDR6 Memory, MasterAir MA610P CPU cooler, 1T PCIe NVMe SSD, 500GB SSD, 2T HDD, 3 Asus 24" monitors, Saitek X56 Rhino H.O.T.A.S., Altec Surround Sound System.

Shouldn't I copy the config file before I uninstall and reinstall the client? That`s what backup means you save a copy of your config with any edits and tweaks you have made, but you than delete the config to give default settings to test the install is sound and working without issues, you can then reapply your tweaks or put back your saved config, but i find it best to start again i tend to apply tweaks one at a time and test it may be long winded but it can be safer, i in fact don`t have many config edits in my sim you can end up back where you started. September 17, 20205 yr Author Thanks Raymond, I think tomorrow would be a good time to do the repair. It probably would be better to add back the tweaks one at a time but I am starting to believe my main problem is a program issue.I haven't made any recent tweaks and this saved flight problem is something that just started a week or so ago. If I get it fixed I'll let ya'll know. i7 8700K CPU @ 4.8 GHz, 32 GB DDR4 3000 memory, Gigabyte Aorus Z370 MB, EVGA RTX 2060 Super XC Ultra GPU 8GB GDDR6 Memory, MasterAir MA610P CPU cooler, 1T PCIe NVMe SSD, 500GB SSD, 2T HDD, 3 Asus 24" monitors, Saitek X56 Rhino H.O.T.A.S., Altec Surround Sound System.
September 19, 20205 yr Uninstalling and reinstalling the client will not replace the config files--so if your problem is something boogered-up in your configs, it'll still be there after the client reinstall. If that's the case, then something like the "remove generated files" procedure may be needed. If you use Lorby's P3D Addon Manager, it does a one-click backup of your config files, so you could make a backup, then do the "remove generated files" cleanup and try replacing just the bare essentials like add-ons.xml and terrain.cfg and scenery.cfg files. It'll be tricky if you have to go that route.
