NOBODY expects the Chinese Communist party! Their chief weapon is surprise ...surprise and fear

...fear and surprise
.... their two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency

... their *three* weapons are fear, and surprise, and ruthless efficiency
... and an almost fanatical devotion to Chairman Mao....

... their *four*...no... *amongst* their weapons
.... amongst their weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise

.... I'll come in again

I have had something like this happen once before when I was messing with my community folder while the sim was starting up.   I was only able to fix it by removing the "Content.xml" file in LocalCache (two directories above your Community folder, if you had a standard install).   That seems to be built by the sim at some point during its startup based on what's enabled, and I think if it gets corrupted it can keep things from working until manually repaired.

But that's just a guess... and this may not even fix your problem.  It's just a thought for something you can try.

This sounds promising

Glenn,

About a week ago, I reinstalled the whole box and dice and everything was working.  I did notice however, that I set up on my 1tb SSD a community folder and then did the install. I have just rechecked my SSD and I have on the drive 3 folders

1. Windows apps (no access)

2. program files (subfolder "modifiable windows apps" which is empty, and,

3. MSFS Community which have normally populated community and official subfolders.

I have looked at appdata path and cannot find any path to where the rest of this installation has been placed.

Drive C contains nothing that even looks like a MSFS installation.

Any ideas

Tony

See if you have a %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe?

That is precisely what I am looking for and cannot find.  I remember finding a packages folder there somewhere in drive C I think, but it had nothing to do with MSFS

I did however, have that path on my initial installation and it was located on the MSFS dedicated drive. the path started (from memory) with Windowsappsys or something like that.

If you installed on another drive the game itself will be under \wpsystem .

The community folder will be wherever you told it to be.

If you go into developer mode in game there is an option that shows all your paths.

Otherwise just go to file explorer click on the drive you think it is installed in and search for "Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe" on that drive .

To find your community folder you should be able to do the same thing but instead search for " packages\community "

Kaosfere,

This is slightly more than "sounds promising"

I eventually located that "Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe" suggested by Glenn and removed the contents.xml file, rebooted and all is now OK, imi OK, repeat OK

It is actually more than that .... it works.

Thank you all so very much for your input ... can't stop and chat, .... gotta go fly now LOL

Regards

Tony

PS. despite the negatives, we have a wonderful community here.
