November 13, 200619 yr After installing and activating the Deluxe version of MS FSX, I was able to spend several hour's setting up the "Setting's"in free flight with the DHC-2. Then the game CTD'd,with an error claiming that not all of the program folders had been installed, and to re-insert disk #1 and click on repair. That was the last time I saw a flyable FSX! I tried to go to my "Program Install/Un-Install"in XP Pro and un-install FSX (which took only 10 second's).Only to find out that one of the missing file's was the program's Un-Install program. I have manually deleted all of the obviousfolder'(C:ProgramFile'sMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Simulator X ,REGHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/MICROSOFT GAMES/FLIGHT SIMULATOR/FSX, HKEY_CURRENT_USER_SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/MICROSOFT GAMES/ FLIGHT SIMULATOR/FSX,Windows/WSX Folder, cleaned the Manifest folder of any ref. to FSX as well as the two folders for addon's, and the Document and Settings FSX folder. I was able to find the new Tool KB928080 ON AVISIM on NOV.11th, and after four attempts, with the same results, I have come to the conclusion that there are hidden folders that a properly working UN-Install program would have deleted . Every time I try and re-install FSX, I get the error#1722/1603. In two weeks I have tried twelve different installs with different settings, and got so angry I re-installed MSCFS3 on my new system for a test, and it is working great! So do I have other folders out there, that are not tagged with the FSX name? The only help from Microsoft Support(Tag#SRX061031606116) indicated that they were aware of the problem, and will get back to us! Any help would be appreciated. This whole process has been going on since Oct 17. Thank you Ken:-bat
November 13, 200619 yr Ken; I believe that you can run the uninstall utility from disk one. I'mnot at home presently so I can't verify it but I seem to recall thatthere is an uninstall function .....as well as repair on there. Denny Retired Professional Tourist
November 13, 200619 yr I think I know what you are talking about. When I insert Disk1, it just starts the installation all over again. I have opened up Disk 1, but cannot find an obvious uninstall program labeled anywhere in the folder! Thank You Ken
November 13, 200619 yr If you run setup.exe from disk #1, you should be given the option to repair or remove the application.Jim Karn
November 14, 200619 yr I double checked ,and not on my disk. And so far no help from Microsoft. The installation hasen't finished since the first install on Oct.17! Thanks for trying. Ken
November 14, 200619 yr Hi Ken,Look on Disk 1 for Setup.exe (or just insert Disk 1 into your DVD Drive and Autorun should automatically start Setup.exe). As others have been trying to explain, there is no uninstall program on the FSX Disk. You install/uninstall/or repair FSX by clicking on Setup.exe on Disk 1. If Setup detects a current installation, it will give you the option to completely remove FSX OR repair it. If Setup does NOT detect FSX is installed on your system, it will begin the installation process. So, if you get the option to repair your FSX installation, click on that and Setup will repair your FSX installation so that all the files and settings are properly installed. Make sure you do not have an anti-virus program running when you do this as anti-virus programs look for anything trying to mess with your registry and/or your system folders and will not allow it to happen in most cases. So, to reiterate, there is no uninstall.exe program on Disk 1 on your FSX disks. Setup.exe handles everything - installing, uninstalling, or repairing FSX. Hope this helps and you can get a good clean installation done and you can run FSX without another CTD. Best regards,Jim
November 14, 200619 yr Thanks Jim, but I have tried every conceivable install out there. The installation runs through Disk 1 (install only)and Disk 2 right up to the"Writing System registry Values"and then gives me an error 1722/1603 "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your Support personnel or package vendor". I have seen this error so many times,I see it in my sleep! Support asked me to install this on my lowly Laptop and it seemed to load fine. The point being it un-installed as it should have. Ken
November 14, 200619 yr Hi Ken,Sorry to hear you still haven't fixed it. The fact that it states there's a problem with the Windows Installer Package indicates to me you may not have the .Net Framework Version 2 installed correctly. As you probably know, the .Net Framework is required to successfully install this software. You might try reinstalling this software and see if that fixes your problem. Also, I have read that some people have had problems installing the software because the disk is dirty (or scratched). But this is less likely since you were able to install the software on your laptop. Best regards,Jim
November 15, 200619 yr Thanks Jim. If I remember right I had already installed .Net Framework 2.0 some time around the 10th of OCT., and didn't get my FSX installed until around the 17th. Now I do have Net Framework 1.1, and the hot fix still showing up in the Windows XP Rro "Install/Un-Install" program. I hate messing with the thought of un-installing the 1.1! At one time I did have one option of inserting Disk 1,and clicking on "repair". And as soon as I did that the whole game messed up with the error 1722/1603 and backed itself out! Ken

November 15, 200619 yr Thank you Bill. As I type this I am downloading a fresh copy of .net 2.0 from Microsoft. Should I un-install the copy of .net 2.0 already installed on my PC? Ken
November 15, 200619 yr Thank you for the help but I have tried the new"Tool"and found out that the needed path for the exe. does not exist on my PC. Ken
November 16, 200619 yr I found out today a tech. from FSX Support is supposed to call and try and get this mess cleared up. I spent a short time with the India support this morning and tried that new Tool. And it didn't change a thing.Ken
