Soaring weather...

Featured Replies

I wonder how, along the run, ASOBO could bring soaring weather to the platform...

Simply feeding the sim with "model" data isn't going to do the "miracle", but I would really love to be able to soar over the best scenery I ever experienced in any flightsim, using thermals, convergence, even wave !

Flying gliders since 1980

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Yup. Looking forward to that being possible. My fave gliding airfield is actually there in the sim and quite accurate too but it's not the same landing there with an engine!

Which one Chock?  Mine would be Bidford, but I haven't checked it out in the sim yet.

I hope when the gliding pack is introduced (probably payware DLC) that we can get a tug from a Cub or something.  That would be great.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

Camphill Derdyshire. Unlike most sims it is actually in MSFS as a legit aifield. It is about 30 miles ESE of Manchester Airpot if you want to check it out. Good ridge soaring site in real life and challenging to fly from owing to much winshear. Also very near to where 617 Sqn trained for the Dambuster raids as Derwent Reservoir and Dam was similar topography to the targets in the Ruhr, so very picturesque and historically interesting too.

Meh, just wanted to post a screenshot for Chock to confirm if the Camphill we have in X-Plane is the one he was talking about... can´t figure out how this imagehosting business works, well I probably could if I wanted to. It is just so antique to not be able to upload images directly, I don´t really want to support this stance with putting in any effort 😆.

Cheers, Jan

Deadstick it then!  Granted, the approach may be a little different from the usual...
