If you can avoid it don't rename autogen default.xml!!!

Hi,Yesterday I almost gave up FSX. Reason: The texture/autogen mismatch was soooo ugly I just couldn't stand it. With large areas with no autogen, but flat photos of buildings, side by side with large areas with small square houses.Of course I had renamed default.xml to default.bak a long time ago, but when I reactivated it today I understood how much this has to say with the attempt of creating a "world". It's not only the local 7/11, it's a multitude of important info there, for all kinds of buildings, even based on local info, like "European warehouse" or "US warehose".So guys, maybe the sim gets unflyable with this one on, I lose 5fps, but I'll do every other tweak in the world before I rename this file again!!!Eagle

I deleted my file. Any way to get it back without re-installing the whole program?

Danke

Hi All:Just in case you might not have encountered this info yet, there are edited versions of the default.xml file at various threads and perhaps on the AVSIM file library for FSX (comparable but different from what was used in FS9).These would allow certain types of autogen to be excluded while others perhaps more desirable autogen objects to still be displayed. These "safely" modified files have been posted by Matt Fox, Dick (Rhumbflappy) Ludowise and I believe a few others.Additionally, Matt Fox has a nice summary web page for many FSX tweaks here:http://www.fox-fam.com/wordpress/?page_id=41Hope this helps! :-) GaryGB

Hi folks, glad this was raised because I renamed the default.xml file in both FS9 and FSX yet I still have those silly petrol (gas!) pumps at airports etc ... Is there another sneaky file I've missed on here??!Many thanksdlight

Gas pumps at airports are not autogen. They are part of the airport objects bgl.
