November 16, 20205 yr Isn't LGAT closed (since 2001??!!??). I decided to do some sight seeing and blithely chose the closest airport to the Acropolis. I took off and everything seemed fine, but when I went in for approach, it looked all wrong. The longest runway had X's in it and the shorter one, seemed to have Buildings built across it. Surely this isn't right. So I did some research, and not only is it closed, it's been closed since FS2002 days. So why is it still selectable? I no longer fly in into it, but it seems pretty weird to see a bunch of GA parking and aircraft there. But as I understand it, the airport has been closed to ALL traffic for almost two decades. Just an observation. I know that's not the only data error they have in the airport database.
November 16, 20205 yr The airport list is both incomplete and overcomplete. 😉 There are airports that no longer exist but which are in the sim, and airports that do exist but aren't in the sim. Submit a bug report. They're collecting info on incorrect airport data. Ryzen 7 7800X3D/B650 X AX | 5090 | 32gig | Win10 | Pimax Crystal Light
November 16, 20205 yr Looking at a recent satellite photo of Athens, most of the old LGAT airport is still “there” - including most of the main runway, terminal building and ramp. It does appear that several sport fields and stadiums have been built alongside the north end of the runway. I assume the AI recognized the site as being an airport due to the runway and decided to place static airplane there. Everything I have read indicates that Navblue's product is inferior and has errors/omissions even in the versions they sell to real pilots, so this is the only reason I can come up with. KLGB (closest thing I have to a home airport) has two runways that were removed in like 2016...still there in the sim. November 17, 20205 yr What is even more puzzling that it actually has parking spots. As we know this demands human intervention. Someone at Asobo or the contracted companies that did the airport layouts did actually make LGAT an active airport with selectable parking spots. That is as puzzling as the total omission of Stuttgart...
November 17, 20205 yr I don't think parking spots mean anyone touched an airport by hand. There is a bombing/gunnery target range near China Lake NAS in the desert military airspace near Barstow, CA that looks like an airport in terms of the footprint. In the sim it has an ICAO code (of another airport 1/2 way around the world) and parking spots. I highly doubt anyone manually created that. I think the Blackshark AI did it. I landed there one time just looking for the nearest runway to land at and I was like....this is a very weird and creepy shaped airport.... turns out it's a target range.... Also Attu Island, AK is uninhabited since 2010, but the Coast Guard station there has an ICAO code in the sim and has parking spaces and ambient aircraft there. As far as I know the only person to land there since 2010 was a person doing an around-the-world flight, and the island is infested with rats so overnight stays are not recommended.
