Hoping for those CPU optimizations this week...

Recommended Posts

I've noticed a general ever-so-slight increase in frames, but my main issue remains--stutters and very long two second pauses in specific areas as well.  I can reliably reproduce these every time I fly in those areas.

I have a specific saved flight use to evaluate FPS changes with each release. I lost about 2 FPS (44 to 42) with this release for my test flight. However, I am definitely seeing it bog down everywhere, more so in urban, suburban and heavily treed area when flying at lower altitudes... the closer to the ground, the worse it gets. It crossed below a critical threshold for me in this release... below 30 FPS in many of my use cases.

I was also hoping for a fix to the long (1-5 seconds) many are experiencing in large urban areas such as westbound approach to LAX, Melbourne etc. But alas, not such luck.

8700k
1080ti
32 gig ram
1080p resolution
Most settings on Ultra with a couple on High
Both LOD's set at 200
Render Scale set at 120

With GA planes in Rural area's I get 55-60fps (capped at 60 with Vsync)
Big cities like around JFK I get 30-35fps

If I pop out something like ATC into a new window on my second screen it costs me 8-10 fps and than another 2-4 fps for any additional pop out window

I gained about 5fps with this update & I can see a greater load distributed to cores 1 & 2 (they now run at around 75%);  core 6 is where the main thread (running 98-100%); the other cores run around 50%

In rural areas my GPU runs at 99% so I'm GPU limited there BUT moving into cities I become CPU limited so the GPU only runs at around 70% as the CPU can't throw enough frames at it.

For my aging rig I'm very pleased with the fps I'm getting;  I've found the right graphic eye-candy settings to balance my GPU & CPU loads.

1080p is easy... It is the 4k HDR wanting to see these #'s! Hopefully new rig with 3080 will get there 🙂

Yep some areas are simply done BAD ! I simply cant fly in these areas.

I noticed a pretty radical change.I was a little blocked with high settings to meet all situations. Now I'm in ultra and pleasantly surprised that it goes so easily with my old I7 4790K and GTX1080...

stuff has to be loaded in, i think its unavoidable with online world data.

i dont find it an issue, it happens rarely.

I found that traffic settings have a major impact on CPU performance.

Only played around by setting all sliders to same values.  Settled at 10 for everything.  Going as low as 40 causes major fps hit already. (for me)

Yeah, I definitely turn off traffic and multiplayer when I'm just flying solo. They do take CPU cycles for sure. Might not matter as much on a top shelf newish CPU.

DX12 please and then multi-threading.

that's the only solution for real time simulations, when PMDG comes with their systems that will eat cpu cycles and we will suffer if this simulator still renders in DX11, it'll be FSX performance all over again.

Even with the videos posted here, 60fps in LAX don't show much since LOD is really horrible, constant popping of buildings.
