Way to remove VC window reflections?

Featured Replies

I dont mind the vc reflections in the day but at night they are overbearing. They are so bright and sometimes get in the way of seeing things. When I flew at night in the warrior we barely even had window reflections. (in real life)...I was flying the dc3 in this pic and the reflections are too overdone. I spose its attached to the mdl file right? :(It also helps to be viewing this pic in a dark roomhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/161358.jpg

The only way I have found to do this is to create a blank (blue background) texture and replace the XXX_reflection.dds file in the texture folder(s) of the plane you want (XXX is whatever the plane name is). I found that just getting rid of this file or renaming it didn't work. You have to replace the file with a blank (just a blue background is fine -- there has to be something in the file).Robert

Any chance you could post that file you used? (For those of us who don't know how to make one.)

Thanks Robert great tip. I always hated to much reflections in FSX. Plus it adds about 3 FPS when you take it out. I like a clear view myself or very minor glare.

Is there a way of removing the cockpit window reflections without having to resort to editing texture files? For example in the main settings, or through the fsx.cfg or another cfg file?

I was about to ask this very question about the reflection's impact on frame rates. You wouldn't see the reflections with polarized sunglasses anyway!

Do you do it in paint or what? What sort of blue? dark, light, is there a hex value you need?

OK - I haven't found a way to change this without playing with the texture files (i.e by changing or adding something in the .cfgs or menus)- unfortunately I have no where to post the file. If someone else does let me know and I'll get it to them- light blue colour seem to work fineNUTS AND BOLTS:Of course, back up your reflection file first. I used XnView (free conversion program, you can get it at http://perso.orange.fr/pierre.g/xnview/enhome.html) to convert the file from .dds to .bmp and load it up in MS Paint.Paint a blue square over the current texture and save it.Use XnView to convert it back to a .dds file and you are good to go.Hope this helps.Robert

HELLO DEVELOPERS...ARE YOU LISTENING?I don't understand why developers don't get the hint! They should give us the option at install time of choosing to have (or have not) reflections and window tint.

Please, someone come up with a batch file or something for us who are less experienced.Randall

Hi alli just followed PDX's instructions and converted the A321's Glass DDS file, repainted it blue and then converted it back to DDS format.Only problem is...now everything outside the Glass cockpit is tinted BLUE :-) ...I'm wondering how you could make the Blue ...Invisible ,if you see what i mean.seems to me that whatever colour you paint the DDS file,it will effect the outside view.. any ideas steve

Best solution is to get a window cleaner and mix it with a bit of alcohol preferably scotch and voila! clean windows...Stelios

Unfortunately..my window cleaner only comes once a month...I can't wait that long:-) :-) steve

I'm about to try it. I imagine that there might be a setting about perserving the alpha channel or something?Upon seeing the texture, I will use the color picker to choose from an area that shouldn't have any reflection and paint the entire pic that color. We shall see...
