Iris Jabiru v1.3 released

Featured Replies

The latest version of the Iris jabiru is available for download at Iris Simulations  (not sure about Orbx yet).

It now includes external hardware interactivity via default sim commands which means my Saitek switch panel finally works 😄  I expect things like the Honeycomb yoke switches will also work better after this update.

My initial impressions are the aircraft are a a lot less twitchy on the ground and you do not need to load them up with extra cargo to get more realistic climb performance.

Changelog:

Bush Trips – Tropical North Bushtrip added.
Bush Trips – New weather conditions courtesy of SoFly Weather Preset Pro now included in Gippsland Tour and Tropical North Bush Trips.
All aircraft – Performance refinement to flight model completed for more engine power accuracy.
All aircraft – Tablet display turns off when stowed, providing approximately 10FPS gain when stowed on some devices.
All aircraft – Fixed Z-Bias issue on circuit breaker labels.
All aircraft – Cockpit tooltips added.
All aircraft – Camera positions updated.
All aircraft – Update to J2200 mixture code for improved function.
J160-D – AvAngel J160-D added.
J160-D – Landing light added to J160-D.
J160-D – Lil’ Jo J160-D 24-7089 removed and replaced with new owners livery.
J170-C – G-CFSJ livery added.
J170-D – SCOOBS Gaming J170-C added.

Though I note that the Z-Bias issue was only fixed on the J170D but not the J170C .

I'm not able to set vertical speed anymore. Nothing happens when I scroll the mouse wheel over the knob (when hdg & alt are static green).

Apparently you can change the glass cockpit back to the default MSFS instruments with the pad device (have not tried this yet). Does it still do it with the MSFS default glass cockpit ?

It's on sale 30% off at Orbx.

Thank G-d I read the thread title wrong!

I thought my ex wife had got out of jail 🥵

Your ex wife was called jabiru 170  ???

Hello, Iris, if you are reading, I was just kidding of course. 😇

I bought it just now since it was on sale at Orbx.

For the time being takeoff without flaps and ease it up to full throttle and do not brake too heavily after landing.  The current version is a lot less twitchy than in the past but the generic MFSF ground control issues present on most planes are still there.

Ya I braked to hard and the plane went lopsided!

Is there anyway to tell the distance from your destination in the models with Garmin GPS?  Or ETE?

Not sure if you can in the little GPS in the steam gauge versions, never tried.

If you create a flight plan in the main MFD on the left in the glass jabirus and then go in and select "activate leg to waypoint" it should show distance to next waypoint and ETE.

Hint: hold right alt and click on the glass displays and they pop out and can be placed on another screen. You do still need to use the mouse over knobs in cockpit to make some adjustments though.

They still have problem with flight model. At max gross weight during climb right rudder is insufficient to counter left turning tendencies unless airplane skid

Yeah, if I understand correctly, that particular issue and some of the stall oddities at the edge of the envelope are waiting on the SDK to be updated/expanded before they can be fully rectified. (I believe waiting on the SDK is the main reason Iris Simulations have not released it on the MSFS marketplace yet, even though they have approval to do so) .

Even with the odd issue like that, I still fly this almost as much as Rob Young's Turbo bonanza. On the MS forums, a few real world Jabiru owners have chipped in saying for "normal" flight (by which I assume they mean no aerobatics, no extreme crosswinds and no max performance max load short field take-offs and landings) the latest patch is getting pretty close to their experience of the real aircraft.  I have only flown a jabiru a few times and that was a J230 back in 2013, but that is my impression as well.

Like pretty much every addon aircraft so far there are still a few minor issues. Ground control is far better after this patch, but they are still a little twitchy on the ground, especially with take off flaps and are still unstable under very heavy brakes. Generally the lighter J160 seems to have the more stable FM of the two. Makes you wonder if the sim in general has CoG issues.  One thing they have definitely rectified is the excessive performance as they now climb out like they should.

For me the biggest improvement in 1.3 was not FM issues it was the implementation of support for things like Saitek switch panels.

With this current patch being released this close to December they have stated the next major fix/update will now be January -- but to be quite honest, for what I use them for, I am more than happy with how the aircraft currently perform.

Not surprised by skittishness with flaps. I sort of began believing the main weight balance is incorrect in the whole sim. That is, everything is nose light and therefore unstable as the nose tends to float upwards. Anyways, for planes skittish on landings I alter the flightmodel.cfg moving the station_loads forward a bit to keep the nose anchored. It definitely keeps the planes stable after touchdown.

This load shifting works in real life too of course,  but it burns fuel faster because it takes more energy to produce the same lift. Fuel is free in the sim, so that's what I do.

I first tried this trick on the Birddog L19 Cessna which really skated on landings. Lands easy now.

Birddog L-19 I did this: (after MSFS first came out, a video on Youtube, a pilot said all the planes were floating on landing and were tail heavy, nose light compared to in the real world. This is what gave me the simple idea. I figured I was just making it more realistic).

// station_load.0 =170,  0, 0, -0, Station 1
// station_load.1 =170,  2.0, -0, -0, Station 2
// station_load.2 =100,  3.8, -0, -0.7, Station 3

station_load.0 =170, -2,   0,  -0, Station 1
station_load.1 =170,  0,  -0,  -0, Station 2
station_load.2 =100, 1.8, -0,  -0.7, Station 3
