November 30, 20205 yr Honshu Part III – Tokyo and more! We depart from Gotemba (RJGO), a small airfield at the foot of Mt. Fuji. We navigate through the mountains and land at Atsugi (RJTA). The Air Force Base of Atsugi is the place where US Troops set foot on Japan's main island during WWII. From here we start our sightseeing tour around the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. The first points of interest are at Yokohama. Depicted are the downtown Yokohama area and the Yokohama Bay Bridge. We cross the Tokyo Bay and land at Kisaratsu (RJTK). On the way to our next landing at Tokyo's International Airport Haneda (RJTT) we pass a building named Wind Tower. After departure we cross the bay again to take a look at the Zozo Marine Stadium. We head back to Tokyo and pass two bridges, the Gate Bridge and the Rainbow Bridge. Just about 3 miles north is a large park with the Tokyo Imperial Palace. It is the residence of the Emperor of Japan, but also houses museums and administrative offices. At its south-western end is the Japanese Parliament Building. We pass Shinjuku, a large commercial center and land at Tachikawa (RJTC). After departure we head north to see the Seibu Dome. We turn east again, back to Downtown Tokyo and pass Ikeburo, yet another commercial and entertainment center. We pass the Tokyo SkyTree, a broadcasting and observation tower. We land at Tokyo's other International Airport Narita (RJAA). We depart to the north and land at Hyakuri (RJAH). It also serves as an air base for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) under the name Hyakuri Air Base, and is the closest fighter base to Tokyo. The airport was known as Hyakuri Airfield prior to March 2010, when civil aviation operations began, it is now called Ibaraki Airport. The next landing will be at Utsonomiya (RJAH). North of the airfield the ruins of Utsonomiya Castle are depicted. We head northeast and then to the north to reach our final destination Fukushima (RJSF). The city's name became known all over the world after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011. Some more information about the Points of Interest along our route and the flight plans are available here Most of the POI are already included in MSFS. There are three additional landmarks available: Ikeburo.Toshima City ZoZo Marine Stadium Narita These addons enhance the scenery but are not mandatory. The flight has about 300 miles with 7 landings. I flew it with the Bonanza, but the C-172 or the slower Diamond Twins are also good choices. There is no need to rush! I found that the Tokyo Metropolitan Area has a huge impact on my system, so I used the manual cache. I cached the downtown area with a high, the surrounding area with medium resolution. I did not cache anything else and the cache has about 7 GB, your mileage may vary! Recommended departure time: 13:30 local. Estimated date of departure: Wednesday, December 2, 19:00 UTC Voice Communication: RTWR Teamspeak. . Regards Gunter Schneider
November 30, 20205 yr I'm all for enhancement. My wife says I should try some. Not sure what she means. 😒 The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
November 30, 20205 yr Thanks, Gunter. Looks like a great flight. And thanks for the advice to cache the Greater Tokyo Area. (I didn't realize that this is the largest urban conglomeration in the world.) Makes a noticeable difference. I'll be flying Rob Young's wonderful Turbo Normalized G36. Painted by Jan Kees Blom in the New Zealand livery ZK-UTE. At Tonga Here. BTW. Japanese baseball fans will want to install the Seibu MetLife Dome. Again, at Tonga Here. Not really necessary as the landmark stadium is painted onto the default scenery. But it is nice to see it jump to 3D life. Not everyone will be interested. --Mike MacKuen
December 1, 20205 yr Author Thanks Mike, I included the Dome in the flight plan but forgot the download link 😥 Regards Gunter Schneider

December 2, 20205 yr I'll join the flight until the first of these happens: a) computer grinds to a halt due to lack of memory b) a building grabs me and won't let go (like last week) c) my dinner's ready 🦆
December 3, 20205 yr Good Fun. I believe Nick made it to C today. A couple of things I had to look up: Narita has 2 towers but they are not the same height. What is in the sim is a generic representation. However the Marriott to the left of the approach looked good. At RJTU. it was a cemetery or shrine that was just off the approach end of the runway. Next to the truck park. Cheers! KBJC AMD 3900 / RTX 2060 Pro
December 3, 20205 yr Author Google Earth shows 2 towers with different heights at the Narita airport, that seems to be ok. Regards Gunter Schneider
