December 12, 20205 yr Hello, I am here looking for some advice, Now that i got a new computer with a rtx 3070 i'd like to change my 3 1080p monitors for either one 4k ultrawide 49" pc screen or a 4k 50/55" TV screen for the sim What would be the best ? If i go for TV screen i should be on 3840x2160 resolution and 5120x1440 for the 49" So the main difference is that i have to choose between a wider FOV or a bigger screen isnt it ? Any advice from someone zho tried both ? Thank you
December 12, 20205 yr I went from 3 24" 1080p monitors to a 49" 4k monitor (LG OLED TV, zero latency in the game mode) and never regretted. The wide FOV always deformed the view anyway. The immersion is very good with a huge screen. It physically occupies around 90 degrees of view when viewed from 75cm away and when the camera and the zoom is properly configured in the sim everything feels just right.

Thanks for the asnwer, Do you only use it for siming or did you try any other game ? 🙂

December 12, 20205 yr I am using a 77" (i believe) Samsung 4k TV and it works pretty well for MSFS and other games too. I can recommend the TV option! But be aware you can only use HDMI so get a cable that can handle 120Hz if you plan to play other games than MSFS on it. December 12, 20205 yr Two months ago I got myself a new PC see sig below. IMO and the conclusion I came to is don't go to 4k, everything you gained is lost to running a 4k screen. People I know on these forums have told me they regret moving to 4k the performance loss is to great. I went for 32" 1440p and I till see the performance hit over 1080p, there is no way I would goto4k. 1440p imo is the sweet spot. My new 32" G7 is amazing. You need a 3090 imo to goto 4k. Sure if the primary measure is FPS, then 800x600 is best. In case of MSFS it's quite the contrary: every frame beyond 30/s is just increasing the entropy on account of lost beauty.

Did you think through that reply or did it just fail out your mouth before engaging any brain cells? David Murden. I may add that you can reduce the resolution even on a 4k TV. I am mostly not running games in 4k because i simply don't feel the need and use 4k for movies etc. I play MSFS and other games in 1440p on it and i am very pleased. December 12, 20205 yr The significant difference is most TVs use chroma subsampling. Many newer 4K televisions do have a PC mode that does not subsample - but some cheaper/older TVs always chroma subsample. Good article: https://www.rtings.com/tv/learn/chroma-subsampling TLDR version - chroma subsampling gives better bandwidth with minimal effects in movies and most gaming BUT looks truly awful in things like text in a word document or webpage. If buying a TV as a monitor make sure it supports 4:4:4 mode and you know how to enable it. Edited December 12, 20205 yr by Glenn Fitzpatrick

I like running MSFS at 40 fps with TrackIR, very smooth and can use any aircraft anywhere. I like having the head room, sure 4k is wonderful sharpness etc just imo its still to much a drain even on a good PC. Sounds like you find the same and run 1440p on your 4k when needed. Nice. Seems so! And if i really need some more sharpness i can turn up the renderscale. With this setup i have found my personal sweetspot. Happy flying!
