The U.S. Air Force revealed this week that it has secretly designed, built, and tested a new prototype fighter jet. The fighter, about which we know virtually nothing, has already flown and “broken records.” (The image above is Air Force concept art from 2018). The Air Force must now consider how it will buy the new fighter as it struggles to acquire everything from intercontinental ballistic missiles to bombers.

Dos the US really have a 6th gen prototype already in the air? If so, they are many years ahead of the rest of the world. It's been speculated that it's hypersonic.

I wouldn't be surprised, technology is constantly moving forward and the F-22 is a 30 year old design at this point (considering the YF-22 prototypes).

Well we in the UK are in the very early stages of the Tempest program. Many years away from a prototype, 20 plus years away from deployment. I believe Rolls Royce are in the development phase for the power plant that has to generate far for electrical power than a conventional engine, in order to power the directed energy weapons.

So if the US has achieved this, and the rest of the world is decades away, it's a stunning achievement.

Yep, it's typical of the development cycle the US has. There's a reason why the DOD budget is so large.

And it's also a part of the reason why we have so many hungry people in this country..............

Yup. The world's average expenditure on arms for a period of two weeks, is the same amount of money which would be required to feed literally everyone on the entire planet, for a year. Sad but true.

$934 Billion I understand. There's a lot you can do with that sort of money. So what's the "black budget"? many billions I would have thought. No wonder the Nimitz experienced tic tac UFO's. 😉

Yep, I wrote a thesis on the iron triangle in regard to DOD spending. I've seen a lot of waste while flying in the military. Especially when it comes to what was needed vs what someone else thought you needed.
