Is anybody using the FranceVFR "Landmarks" package?

Featured Replies

Just curious if anybody has got this and if so, what they think of it.

It's a bit pricey to just buy on the chance it may be good and I always had mixed feelings about their stuff in P3D. I've already got a lot of nice stuff for France, both free and payware - it's shaping up to be a good region in the sim.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Have the overall same mixed feeling on FranceVFR but wanted to support my local MSFS business;)

More seriously, the amount of generic objects added is very impressive: bridges, water towers, lighthouses, different types of electric pylons, storage tanks, electric and nuclear plants... the list is very long (check their web site). The price is very high as well. Maybe the most expensive add-ons for MSFS yet 40€ (-10€ discount for previous customers)

Funny example of objects add: ski lifts and cable

Some objects are duplicate at the same location  like communication antennas and water towers that I mostly see in my MSFS. Only two types  can be remove by just removing for the wind turbines or electric poles dedicated folder. What makes ORVFR better in MSFS than maybe in previous FSx/P3D is that the amount of objects on ground for VFR is already important. Then, ORVFR are greatly melted in the existing MSFS world. Personally, I really love that.

All in all, ORVFR is a product for French low and slow VFR flights addicts. Those who are fine with some reporting point already existing in MSFS will skip it but those who want the maximum of VFR points on ground: this is a must-have.

Waiting for them to drop the price, which they inevitably will after nobody buys it at that price.

Thanks folks. I think I'm going to wait and see if the price comes down a bit, or maybe a sale. Plus I'm a little worried about clashes with the base stuff when such a large area is covered. I've got a lot of France stuff, and I'm really enjoying exploring there. But I'll hang on for now with this until they've gotten a bit more experience with MSFS, and I'll keep an eye out in the forum here to see if much crops up about them. If I'd been more impressed with the P3D stuff I might have just gone for it, but I was always a bit ambivalent about that.

I wouldn't mind betting there's a freebie alternative to this out there somewhere.
