Most, if not all of the “bloatware” is a thing of the past

No is not, and if you compare Linux OS to Windows, the latter is full of apps (which I call bloatware) apps like MS Teams, MS Chat, Disney, Solitaire, Instagram, facebook and others, most of these apps are available and used in our smartphones.

Windows 11 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Asus Prime Z690 | i7 12700KF HT | DeepCool LS520 SE | MSI 5070 Ti Ventus OC | 64GB G.Skill XMP II | Lian Li 216 LANCOOL RGB | TrackIr v5 | Honeycomb Alfa - Bravo - Charlie | MSFS 2024 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Curved 27" MSI | JBL Quantum 810

Much of that can be controlled during install, and most you mention are not installed or aren’t actually installed until you click on the app icon.

But the bottom line…and I’ve been in the IT space for 30 years, is Linux has never been a good fit for end users and desktops. It’s much better suited for the data center where it does a good job in virtual environments and where scripted administration is well suited to Linux.

Linux has had 20 years to unseat Windows and has not grown share in the consumer market.

Ok, if you say so. Let's move on.

Linux is great if you are the kind of guy that likes to have total control of your OS with no bloatware, but for gaming, nothing comes close to MS Windows even with all its bloatware.

I had a new PC built by a company that puts zero bloatware on it. Just windows 10 and  the normal windows apps like explorer.  I would never buy a PC from a company like Dell or HP, which are loaded to the gills with bloatware and usually one of those antivirus programs that you need a blow touch to get rid of.

Zero bloatware, not by a long shot, there is still a bit of cr@p in any Windows OS installation along with a bunch of services running (I like to call it bloatware too) that you don't really need nor use. You want zero bloatware, then move on to Linux, otherwise accept the fact the in any windows environment, custom installed or not, there will always be bloatware of some kind.

I have (the Steam version of) MSFS running well in Linux (Pop! OS) using an nVidia 3060 TI with frame rates in the 40's with everything set to Ultra and my Thrustmaster FCS Hotas setup. If you have specific questions on the setup, let me know and I can try to help, but it is pretty smooth these days.

Actually, I came to this forum to see if anyone has any knowledge about getting third party add-ons (executables) working in Linux. Currently, I have to dual-boot back to Windows if I want to use any of the third party add-ons like NeoFly or Vatsim.

I'd love to be able to run NeoFly and Vatsim's vPilot in Linux with MSFS, but I'm a newbie at Wine and Winetricks.  Anyone know how to proceed or has anyone done this with another sim on Linux?

Thanks!

There are some in the XPlane forum that are touting Linux.
