P3Dv5.1, when opened, also opens root folder...

Featured Replies

Hi All,

i have a problem that P3Dv5.1, when opened, also opens root folder displayed on desktop...

done a Google search, but no definitive answers,

not sure how to proceed.

Any tricks to fix this?

thanks in advance.

Just to verify.

Do you have P3Dv5.1 or P3Dv5.1HF1 (5.1.12.26892) ?

Did you just install it or has it been installed for some time and this problem just started today?

Could you do a screenshot ?

If you're using "Altitude", the IVAO pilot client, there is a specific configuration that causes this. If this isn't the case, then i have no idea.

Using altitude in the simulator computer as a "server", then altitude as a "client" in a different remote computer will cause this in some versions. It's a bug, apparently solved in later versions. Like i said, if you're not using it, then i have no other ideas, this is the only situation i experienced so far.

P3Dv5.1 HF1 (Full package install) when it was first released,

everything seems to be working fine,

tbh, only just noticed it happening - been juggling a few sims lately.

unfortunately, am not using Altitude - thanks for the tip,

still trying to track down the cause.

Wow. Another issue that happened on my system that's been fixed. It is definitely caused by an addon. In my case, it was either GSX or Activesky causing it. I had a corrupted user profile, so I created a new user and copied the old users appdata folder to the new user. Some of the paths in some of the files were incorrect after that and some add-ons had problems so I reinstalled them. While that was happening, one of them launched a P3Dv5 root folder in explorer every time I started P3D. Reinstalling those 2 add-ons fixed the problem. You might find it to be caused by a different one.

One or more of your add-ons should not be working. Start a flight and try to do something with every one of your add-ons. Move your airplane to every one of your installed airports to see if they're there, try using GSX, and see if you can inject historical weather or something. Make sure that chaseplane or any other packages you have work as well.

this is good info,

will chase it down - using lots of standard addons,

hopefully can isolate the cause & report back.

Same thing happened to me the other day after a P3D reinstall. It was an addon.xml in my P3D addon doc folder that was pointing to nothing. I went through them till I found the culprit.
