December 7, 200619 yr I beg of an experienced SDK person, to help me understand how to get started with the FSX - SDK's TRAFFICTOOLBOX feature.I have read the instructions, but seem to be missing something. Many thanks in advance for all of your help.I am back from a 1 1/2 year hiatus, and am anxious to relearn some of what I knew.
December 7, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi there, sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. Are you stuck with getting the Traffic Toolbox installed or do you have questions about specific features?Cheers, Holger
December 7, 200619 yr It's been a few weeks since I messed with TrafficToolBox SDK but I will try to bring it back...(if it didn't happen yesterday, I don't remember it.) :)I urge you to read the TrafficToolBox documentation. It's actually quite good, far better than the documentation for the Terrain SDK.Basically, you create your traffic routes in a text file, and compile that text file through TrafficDataBaseBuilder.exe, and it outputs a .bgl containing the routes for you. The format of the text file is explained pretty well in the documentation. If *I* can figure it out, I know you can.You can specify what airports you want to use, and what aircraft, but that's getting further into it.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
December 7, 200619 yr Yes, sorry Holger, I ran an errand.Thank you so much for the reply ... I am trying to simply install the TRAFFIC TOOL Box, and the situation with the dll.XML is probably the culprit at this early stage. It is marvelous being back in this fine community, as it is the best!
December 7, 200619 yr Hello Mace,And to you, a major thank-you as well!I did edit the dll.XML as shown in the documentation. But I cannot figure our how to install it (?) or locate it to work as it should. Thanks again for the help!
December 7, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi there,if FSX isn't in the default location you need to run ConfigSDK.exe as explained in the sdk overview.html.You can then double-check in the dll.xml that Disabled is set to False under Cheers, Holger
December 7, 200619 yr As I remember the .dll file should be placed in the root FSX folder.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
December 7, 200619 yr Thanks so much Tom ...I will try this. The docs seem to omit this simple but all important instruction (unless I totally overlooked it!).
December 7, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi there,I don't think so. I have four dll.xml files and each sit in their respective SDK subdirectory. These are xml files, not dll files.I'm still not sure what the issue is. You don't see the Traffic Toolbox entry in the FSX menu bar (Modules) when you load a flight?Cheers, Holger
December 7, 200619 yr Holger,Sorry again ... i'm moving into a new home, and the errands associated with setting up shop have me a bit stretched.I think you have perhaps put your finger on the problem.I seem to be running FSX in "full-screen" mode only, and have been wondering what has happened to the "window" mode I used to run previous versions in.I truly was unable to find the "switch" to run in a window last night, after my install. How can I?Thank you!

The same place that the fsx.cfg file is located... ;) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 8, 200619 yr Commercial Member Hi there, switching between Full Screen and windowed mode is achieved via Alt+Enter. Or you can switch between running applications via Alt+Tab. In any case, the FSX top menu bar is always available via the Alt key, and the Traffic Toolbox entries are in the "Tools" submenu. Thanks for the clarification regarding dll.xml, Bill, my mistake.Cheers, Holger
December 8, 200619 yr I have navigated to the C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataMicrosoft - folder. There is not a "FSX" folder there.I did install the SDK from FSX Disk #1, as prescribed.Has anyone else not had this folder show up afer the install?P.S. I did install FSX as well, and I allowed everything to be installed into the default folders, per the installation script. Many thanks for the help!
December 9, 200619 yr I remember I had to do it twice, to get that dll.xml working. You know it's not installed if you do not have the Traffic tools in your FSX menu.I'll have to look at the docs again. I think you have to VERY careful about cutting and pasting that section.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
