After much messing around, I finally managed to get FS2020 working properly in proper VR with PSVR. Better still, I am pulling 45 FPS pegged on my rig in my signature with all VR settings on high and 30-35 FPS with all VR settings set to max/ultra, the latter of which I am using very happily.

I am using iVRy through SteamVR with refresh set to 90Hz, motion smoothing off and VR-direct mode. I have also disabled using desktop game theatre while SteamVR is active for FS2020 as this was causing the game to only run in Cinematic mode.

I didn't think the old PSVR would be up to the task, but it hasn't disappointed. Sure, the resolution is much lower than modern VR offerings but for VFR flying at Ultra settings it is very immersive. Screenie of flying over Canberra, Australia city centre at Ultra settings below:

After playing around with settings a bit more, I have been able to improve the image sharpness significantly by firstly installing the nVidia 457.30 driver known to work so well with FS2020 VR, increasing the custom resolution multiplier in SteamVR to 180% and running the PSVR at 120Hz refresh rate. I can now read airspeed and altitude without having to zoom in!

With all FS2020 settings set to Ultra or to max, except glass cockpit refesh (as setting that to high notably drops FPS with no visual benefit that I can see), I am pulling 30+ FPS, even over the middle of complex scenery like Sydney as shown below.

I am very pleased with how well the PSVR is working with FS2020 now!

Do you mean PSVR as in PlayStation VR?  That's the only PSVR I know.  Does it even work with a PC?

Yes, I do mean Playstation VR and yes it does work on a PC.

To get it working on a PC you need to use either the Trinus driver, which didn't work for me as it didn't scale correctly with my system also attached to a 4K TV and a 1080p montior with font scaling, or the iRVy driver which works perfectly without me having to change anything.

You learn something every day!  Given the per eye resolution I'm surprised it's good with dials etc but you're obviously getting good results with it. I may have a go, since I suspect the FOV is better than my G2 so it would be fun to experiment.

The G2, and pretty much any other recent VR offering, would be much sharper than what I am seeing, but it seems the price to pay for that is lower VR graphics settings. As mentioned above, mine is now sharp enough that I can now (just) read airspeed and altitude but I need to zoom in to read anything else. This is totally fine for VFR flying, especially with all the high scenery detail I can achieve with my VR graphics settings, but not so much for IFR.

Re FOV, I believe that the G2 FOV is specced higher, another 10 degrees or so, but the PSVR does seem to have a very wide viewing sweet spot and I read that the G2's, with the stock face plate, can be quite narrow.

It would be interesting to read of your comparison of PSVR and G2 if you get around to it. The iRVy and Trinus drivers come in a trial version, with the former limiting you to 10 mins use and the latter fading to grey at around 5 mins, and they are good enough to see what PSVR is like on PC.

I am planning to upgrade to G2 or newer in future, but not until nVidia and MS have tweaked FS2020 to give high/ultra detail in VR on an i9/3080/32G system like mine, or perhaps the next gen of CPU/GPU if that's what it takes. In the meantime, I am certainly not suffering with my hotchpotch VR solution!

I wouldn't change face plate on a G2 to get closer to the lenses, it's already burning your eyes enough with the standard one.

Would love to be able to use my PSVR2 with MSFS 2020 if it's somehow possible.

Not currently. There is one undertaking that's been going on for a while, trying to connect the PSVR2 headset to PC. Apparently it has progressed to the point of manufacturing a hardware link thingy to connect the PSVR2 headset, and the first batch of thingys are expected to be sold in January. Don't know much detail apart from that - I don't own a PlayStation.

oh wow, looks promising! Thanks for the link!
