January 31, 20215 yr Had time this afternoon as I await tonight's St Louis Blues at Anaheim Duck's NHL hockey game to take some hops to a number of MSFS addon airports. I started at KMYF, Montgomery-Gibbs Executive in San Diego, where I ended up yesterday after a flight up to Big Bear from Orange County. Today I sky toured a number of MSFS addons for the San Diego area and flew to and landed at KTOA - Torrance; then KAVX - Catalina Island; on to KLGB -Long Beach; then KSMO - Santa Monica; then to KSNA - John Wayne/Orange County. These images are all sized to 1280 so you can see larger images if you click on each of them. However if you then proceed through them with only the right and left arrows you will miss the captions. This first shot shows the city of San Diego downtown area and the famous Coronado Bridge that links San Diego and Coronado. There are a number of MSFS scenery addons for the San Diego area. A look at the San Diego U. S. Navy Yard. Another look at downtown San Diego and Coronado Island and just under the left wing the famed Hotel Del Coronado with its distinctive red roofs. A look at the expansive suburban residential area north of San Diego. A look from over southern Orange County at the Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano area. Approaching the Palos Verdes peninsula with nice detail from an addon of the port at San Pedro/ Long Beach. On final to a very well done MSFS addon for KTOA Zamperini Field at Torrance, California, an airport that I visited often during the 14 years I worked in Torrance. I frequented both the adjacent Sam's Club and Costco club warehouse club locations. You can watch the airport traffic from both. A daunting view of the approach into the significantly upsloped runway 22 at KAVX - Catalina Island. Not sure if I would ever attempt a landing on the downsloped 04. A nice surface level view of this very well done KAVX addon for MSFS And an aerial view after my takeoff as I head for Long Beach On final to KLGB - Dougherty Field/Long Beach. I neglected to capture an image on the ground but I did taxi over to look at the terminal and found this is yet another great MSFS addon airport. Here is a look at downtown Los Angeles with the campus of the University of Southern California below the left wing. Are you aware that USC, renown for its college football teams, is not a public university? It is a private school with affiliation with the Methodist Church. On final to KSMO - Santa Monica Municipal Airport, which has been under seige from local politicians for over two decades. A ground level view of this very well done KSMO airport for MSFS. The creator provides two versions. One from before local government mandated changes to shorten the runway, and the other of the legacy airport layout. I chose to use the legacy version. I am still bitter about what happened in Chicago to Meigs. From Santa Monica I flew to KSNA where my FSX SE Real Air Turbine Duke v2 is parked, waiting for my long two-segment trip back to St Louis tomorrow. The MSFS logbook once again surprises with an entry showing all five of my landings during this tour, but only two takeoffs. I guess I failed to come to a complete stop as I taxiied at Torrance, Long Beach, and Santa Monica. And if you look in the left pane there you will find a helpful scenery map. KTOA is nicely done, and the San Pedro port is awesome. By the way, I lived on the east side of Irvine for 12 years and worked at American Honda in Torrance, so know that whole region very well. You will also find a nice variety of San Diego add on sceneries, including a pair of GA airports, including KMYF, KNZY, and KSEE. Nice destinations from South Bay. Also enhancements for the San Diego navy yard and Qualcomm Stadium. https://flightsim.to/ Edited March 14, 20215 yr by fppilot Frank Patton Corsair 5000D Airflow Case; MSI B650 Tomahawk MOB; Ryzen 7 7800 X3D CPU; ASUS RTX 4080 Super; NZXT 360mm liquid cooler; Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 4800 MHz RAM; RMX850X Gold PSU;; ASUS VG289 4K 27" Display; Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo, Crosswind 3's w/dampener.
