320 Sim Pilot videos featuring the new FBW Autopilot

Featured Replies

I just want to increase the hype 👀

P/S: Before I hear the the nonsense of "SDK is not complete", this is a completely overhauled autopilot system (still missing the custom flightplan though).

Is the FBW autopilot working already? I thought it was still under development.

Yep it is working, it has some issues due to the buggy default flightplan manager and the default ATHR, however all these issues will be resolved soon as all these parts are almost ready and we hope to see it soon together with the custom AP and custom FBW. If not mistaken, it will be available soon in the installer as experimental version.

Ahh, I was thinking of FBW's custom AP.  Ok, this isn't the custom AP being worked on by FBW.  I understand now.  Thanks.

Nope, this is the custom AP by FBW, just its input data are still coming from the default flightplan manager.

Oh nice!  Good to see the FBW custom AP has a working version!  (I assume it's a bare bones working version at the moment)

Nice snowy February day at YMML. Live weather is really working overtime on this one.

Not bare bones at all. It is the most advanced aircraft in the sim right now... including the AP and not by a small margin either. The FlybyWire team are doing an absolutely exceptional overhaul of the A320 and updates are happening daily on the development channel.

If you have not opted to try the Development version with custom FBW and rather opt for the base "stable" version, you wont know what you are missing. Don't for a moment think the dev version is unstable. It is brilliant and getting better every day.

Stupid question is the experimental AP in the Dev version or is there a separate version that you need to download?

Different experimental version, as I understood, it will be available soon in the installer

The custom AP by FBW was last in development from what I heard.  FBW was always using the base A320 autopilot created by Asobo.  The FBW team said they would make an independent, custom, AP, that wouldn't depend on the base A320 AP created by Asobo.

So if the FBW team has gotten their custom AP to work, that's a big step.  How sophisticated their custom AP is though at the moment is another issue, and why I said their custom AP may be "bare bones."

There are three versions you can download - Stable, Development and Development with custom FBW. If you have not done so, download this: https://api.flybywiresim.com/installer

This small app will let you download these options (you select which one you want) and it will also tell you when an update is available. It makes it easy to keep up with the development. I run it each time I start the sim. Generally in the dev branch there are updates everyday (often more than one per day). The Stable version has not been updated in a while.

Thanks, I must have the old installer then as I only have a Stable or Dev version to download.

Yeah, new one has three options and a nicer interface. The new installer also checks itself for updates, so the installer itself can be maintained up to date.
