Need Help with Re-install. Please.. anyone!

Featured Replies

Yes I'm desperate! Spent a decent amount of money on kit to run Microsoft Flight SIm. And now it just won't install/download. Any help really appreciated.

Been using the Sim since it was launched. I purchased the Microsoft Store version (Premium Deluxe) running on Windows 10.
After UK update, tried to install that from the Microsoft Store App.
Store seemed unwell and did not what to install anything at all. I could not get FS or anything else to install. After running out of ideas,
I took the plunge and re-installed windows 10 from scratch. Have taken all windows updates. So now have the latest Windows 10 and a clean PC

Microsoft store seems to behave better, but will not install MSFS.Choosing Install seems to put it into a pending state.Occasionally after a reboot,
it will start to download *and also seems to kick off a download of something called "Gaming Services"(, but it soon dies with an error of 0x80040154.

I notice Digital Ownership item is available to install. But that does nothing if I hit Install next to it.
I am logged in to my MS account when I’m doing this.
Desperate for some knowledagable person to assist me get this working again… please!
As at the moment, I have a £110 piece of software which I can’t use. I'm wishing I'd bought it off Steam now.

Any help much appreciated.

Everything is keyed to your MS/Xbox account. You must be logged in for anything else to function.

Install Digital Ownership then install MSFS.

IIRC, Digital Ownership doesn't actually do anything noticeable when it installs.

Did you google that error or even better file a ticket with zendesk to let MS try to help you. Also mind that there were quite some massive server outages during the last day, seemed to be recovered for me when I last flew some 6 hours ago and suddenly live weather and multiplayer kicked in. Just mentioning this as also login and connection and thus possibly downloads were affected. Before re-installing win10 you should check either here or better directly at MS flightsimforum whether any services are down.

I am logged in to my MS account. If I select the account from the store, it shows me I have purchased the SIM.
The Digital Ownership thing doesn't seem to do anything at all. I hit install, install button disappears and then comes back after a few seconds. Trying to then install MSFS after that has so far failed to work.

I did google it but there wasn't anything obvious showing up. I did read that any errors that start 0x800 are likely store errors.
I've already done the Windows re-install. Perhaps that was a bad idea. But it's too late to go back on that decision.

I've filed a ticket on https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/

Hopefully they don't come back with a stock scripted answer.

Did you try to reset MSFS. Check Win10 —> seetings —> apps —> scroll to MSFS and click options/advanced

Sorry, misread your post - thought you said you were NOT logged in.  So, for clarification - you started being unable to install the update then reinstalled windows and now you cannot reinstall MSFS itself - is that correct?

Did you uninstall MSFS before you reinstalled w10 or do an inplace reinstall? If you didn't UNINSTALL it you won't be ab le to reinstall. Check in settings/apps and see if MSFS is still installed = then try to either repair or reset and see if that helps.

I didn't uninstall it as such. But I wiped the C drive which included MSFS, So it was definitely uninstalled.

I managed to get a solution to the issue. But don't fully understand it - long explanation ahead.

When I reinstalled WIndows 10 from the latest version, for the first time (for me) it forced you to have an MS account as the default login. Previously, you could skip this and use a local account which I always have done. So when I installed it, I used my MS account and then switched it to a local account. Using this method MSFS was failing to download/install (to be clear I was logging in to Microsoft Store using the MS account before trying to download the sim). So being forced to have an MS account for Windows was different. To me, it felt like an account issue. So was looking for reasons why it wouldn't install.

So after a quick search, I found you can create just a local account if the machine is not on the network when Windows is installed.
So gave that a go. Sure enough reinstalling Windows with no network allowed just a local account to be used.

Plugged in the ethernet cable, update store etc. Logged into store. And would you believe it, MSFS starts to download.

I believe that was the only difference in my 2 attempts. So it does feel like a Windows/Store account issue.

Why on earth are people reinstalling their OS when they have a problem with an application?   I have never heard of this fixing anything. ?????

Fresh os plus a fresh sim install should solve the problem

Because I got a new SSD just for the OS

Because I had run out of ideas. And the helpdesk reply with suggestions hadn't resolved the problem.
