FlyByWire A320Neo - Two Questions

Yeah, never really messed with the sim's ATC.  No reason to.  If you're talking about the SID/STAR in Simbrief, yes, it's puts them in there.  You just can't change them manually if you want to.  It actually does a pretty good job of parsing them out.  You can still change them in the aircraft if you decide to fly another SID/STAR.

Hmm...I'll have to try again.  They weren't showing for me or I am misreading the data.

You really want to learn how to use simbrief.

It doesn't work with the default ATC, and the FlyByWire doesn't have a sync back feature (unlike the CJ4 by WT), so the two would not be in sync. I've never done a flight without the default ATC.

Correct, that's why I said you want to use Simbrief...lol.  Not sure why people use the default ATC.  Not even sure why it's a feature to begin with.

Here's my simbrief generated flight plan.  Do you see a SID?

OTAM1A OTAMO DCT EPSIM UM347 ZEUSS DCT FOWEE FLIPR6

ATC is nice because it give you clearance, tells you when to increase/decrease altitude, etc. It is just for ATC communication like every commercial airline has to basically follow.  It adds to immersion.

OTAM1A SID & FLIPR6 STAR.

I find that default ATC DOES follow flight plans imported from SimBrief.  I start with a departure airport & gate only, no destination.  Then I load the SimBrief flight plan in the MCDU INIT page.  ATC does recognize it.

MCDU>Flight plan doesn't show SIDs or STARs, but they, and runway (for departure) and approaches (for destination) can be added by clicking on the departure airport at beginning of flight plan and arrival airport at end of flight plan.

Thanks.

So you are adding the runways in the MCDU? So you manually add the ILS runway based on flight plan?

For the most part, yes.  Eventually the Bus will autotune the ILS when selected, as well as except the SID/STAR from Simbrief.  It will also filter out automatically those that don't apply per RWY.

Yes.  Clicking on departure airport should bring up line "Departures."  Click on that, you select a runway, then a departure (SID).  Similar for arrival airport, various approaches and STARs.  Generally select runway first - MCDU should only show SIDs/STARs (as the case may be) for that runway, but I'm not sure it's working properly.  MCDU is not perfect, but it does work.

Bear in mind that there are four different versions at any moment: 1) current stable version 2) current in-progress version, 3) current in progress version with their custom fbw and 4) version 3 with dual autopilot autoland.  The last is available from link in Discussions in autoland thread only.   I've been using 4).

Also, it's important to update, especially after an MSFS update.  MSFS updates frequently break things; the A32NX people are quick to fix them.  Try to stick to the same version (1 through 4 above) so you get used to how that version works.

Usually it does tune the ILS frequency/course when an ILS approach is selected (but not at VHHX Kai Tak!).  But you do have to check.  I haven't figured out how to get the ILS course blank to manually accept a course entry, but entering the course in the VOR course blank works fine.  Entering ILS [frequency]/[course] enters the frequency but not the course.

Jeff was saying you don't have add the SID/STAR as they are automatically done?

I am using version 2.

No, not yet.  You have to add them right now, as far as I'm aware.  In the future you shouldn't have to.  it's hard to keep up with all these updates.  I can't remember right off if you just use the flight planner in the sim if it puts them in.

Yeah..that's what I was saying.. you have to do what Mike says.  But when I do that, I can't use ATC unfortunately.

Something seems off with the vertical speed mode. Doesn't engage. Have to go into op desc, then switch to vs mode. What am I missing?

Yeah, I'm not sure about the ATC part.  It looks like it works for Mike, but may depend on what version of the FBW you're using.

I'd ask that question in their Discord (help) channel.
