March 9, 20215 yr Actually, you don't need a case at all. Just lay everything on the desktop and hook up the cables. As long as the CPU cooler is running mother nature will take care of everything else 🙂 Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. March 9, 20215 yr With the very slim offerings of GPUs currently. I'd hold off on building your own. There are some very decent built systems that wold cost you the same or slightly less than building your own now. The pre built makers seem to have the GPUs as well. March 9, 20215 yr To the OP. You said you fly an A320 in real life. While graphics will be significantly less, you should be aware of the FSLabs A320 for P3D. In terms of systems modeling (since you want to practice) it's far more advanced than you will get with this airplane. Just sharing in case you hadn't considered that. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
March 9, 20215 yr 16 hours ago, WingCommander said: I've been wondering about the money savings part.... some people are saying that you can't save money any more because prebuild manufacturers are getting stuff at cheaper prices than we can get so they can effectively price match vs DIY while still making themselves a profit. If that is true, then prebuilt would be great for me, but if I can truly save $50, then I'll build it. Is water cooling a necessity or a nice to have? Can all GPUs and CPUs run at full speed without any kind of thermal throttling without water cooling? This is a great point and something to think about. If you can really pick your own parts and then have someone build it for the same cost or even a savings then that is a good option. The problem with most pre-built systems is that they usually put in some inferior parts somewhere to keep the cost down and you really don't want that. Mark CYYZ
