Error downloading or reading wind data - NOAA URL change

NOAA has changed the web-address and I cannot fix this except in a new LNM release.
I'll try to publish a minor release next week. Sorry, for the delay. Too much stuff cooking now.😞

Keep NOAA winds off until this is fixed (menu "Weather" -> "Wind Source" -> "Disabled", use "Manual" if needed).
If you use X-Plane switch to wind from simulator by checking "Weather" -> "Wind Source" -> "Flight Simulator" which is the better choice for X-Plane anyway.

This is where the winds afoft data a is coming from: https://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/

Hello. If I change the settings as you described, the wind data will not be updated? Or will they? Sorry, I just don't understand English (I use google translator), and there is no other support forum.

It won't be updated.

For X-Plane: It is still updated if you select "Weather" -> "Wind Source" -> "Flight Simulator".

No reply required, Alex...

Consider for the future adding a field to store the URL pointing to the wind server? I noticed we had issues similar to the current one in 2020. This way, the users could update it, and you would not need to do an update.  :)

Allow me to reply anway. 🙂

You can already configure the URL but only a part of it. It is a bit more complex to build. The result looks like below, for example:

https://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/filter_gfs_1p00.pl?file=gfs.t06z.pgrb2.1p00.anl&lev_150_mb=on&lev_200_mb=on&lev_250_mb=on&lev_300_mb=on&lev_450_mb=on&lev_700_mb=on&lev_80_m_above_ground=on&var_UGRD=on&var_VGRD=on&dir=%2Fgfs.20210323%2F06%2Fatmos

The problem is that they require a "%2Fatmos" at the end now. Totally useless change IMO.

Alex - maybe it would be possible to mark head/title of this thread another color or something else (I don't know is it possible to change title background color) to find easier "NOAA subject"?
It seems, people ask about NOAA Winds everywhere  but only not here ... 😉

Piotr

I featured it, adapted the title and added a screenshot. Unfortunately I cannot change the title color. Should be good enough.😉

Nobody said you should do this. 🙂

Default is https://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/filter_gfs_1p00.pl

The default URLs are noted in the manual: https://www.littlenavmap.org/manuals/littlenavmap/release/2.6/en/OPTIONS.html#weather-files-weather-files

LNM adds  bit more to this base address.

I am having an issue downloading wind data from NOAA. It seems to have started recently. I get the timeout error referred to in earlier posts. I have double-checked the URL in the options and everything looks good. I have also checked my firewall. When I test other connections in the options menu, they all work. Wind times out.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? I will turn off wind in the meantime.

I am running v 2.6.18. Thanks for your input.
