December 31, 200619 yr >What I notice about those who have moved progressively forward>with FSX is the fact that they treat the program as a>SIMULATOR, and not a GAME.I'm finding that I use FSX, as a "scenery viewer".... :7 Oh, but that's what I fly real planes for!FSX certainly has a new feel to it, and an improved one at that. And it's already been proven that new addon aircraft especially written for FSX can even perform better.IMO, either sim can be used as a simulator or a game, and anything in between. And in many cases, it will be the addons that allow more of a simulation for a particular need. Thats where you have to decide whether it's FSX or FS9, as many addons are not yet available for FSX. As to myself, I'll just switch back and forth. In the meantime, I'll take pleasure in viewing FSX's high resolution "eye candy"! L.Adamson
December 31, 200619 yr "What I notice about those who have moved progressively forward with FSX is the fact that they treat the program as a SIMULATOR, and not a GAME. Often, FS9 is compared to the ability to "play it" in the same way as other games and having the ability to load it with addons.. one thread contributor even claimed he spent "thousands" on the various addons to FS9."Hi Stan,Excellent point! Iguess being one of the "It's a Game" simmers I never really understood why people were so fanatic about certain issues. I have read numerous threads which point out that there are those who use FS to sharpen there abilities, be preparing to take test or in between real flight time. I can see where a stutter can really break your concentration when practicing hadzardous approaches.Just because I have my settings on "easy" and "ignore crash effects" does not mean that everyone else does. I agree that M$ has initally laid an egg by releasing FSX so early, BUT...We asked for it. We essentially demanded that they do so. Heck, I've already seen post talking about FS11.I'm not sure but I don't think we had as many changes in technology between 2002 and FS9 in computers. I kind of look at the cart before the horse with this situation. We have FSX, but we don't have Vista, DX10 yet. With FS2002 and FS9 our only hurdle was XP SP2.There are alot of us who want FSX. but at this point it does not meet our needs. Those of us who "play " it have our "bird in the hand".I don't understand those who stated that proclaim that they deleted FS9 the day they got FSX. Why?( and that's a serious question.) If your FS9 was so beautifully tweaked and you had a miilion dollars worth of add-on wouldn't you wait til your FSX was at least close to what you had?Getting too long. As I said, Good point you made.Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2
December 31, 200619 yr The only thing that keeps me hanging on to fs9 is that Portland scenery that has me spoiled. Nothing fsx has can hold a candle to that scenery. I also have a few planes that are fs9 only that i love so for me it's the addons. When/if flightscenery ever releases a fsx update for the portland scenery like they promised when i purchased it for fs9 then i will probably ditch fs9 at that point.
December 31, 200619 yr Commercial Member I'm currently flying from Catalina to Denver in FSX and amazed at the ground detail of the city (LA complete with moving auto traffic, ships in the harbor etc). I have my frame counter locked at 28 and it pretty much stays there. Counting frames in any version of FS is pretty futile as so much is dependent on the state of the game. That said, I get 20~200 FPS (busy airport ~ clear sky views). On this same flight, FS9 would have FPS's in the teens complete with blurries in over 80% of the view. I fly the Mooney and (IMHO) have never found any add-on that has textures that look so good. I loved the F1 Cessna Conquest but now it looks (and flys) like a toy. Can't wait for an updated version. By the way, 2D panels are a thing of the past for me.What bothered me the most in FS9 was the ridiculus flickering horizon that is for the most part gone in FSX. I also appreciate the curved horizon in FSX and have to smile everytime I see it.In a word, everytime I fly FSX I am amazed in one way or another. Sure I will be buying new addons in support of our community but for now I am very much enjoying FSX in its present state.jja Jim Allen[email protected]SkyPilot Software home of FSXAssist / P3DAssist
