A Sure-Fire Sign That Default ATC Is About To Go Sideways

So what? Cancel IFR or ignore the instructions and fly the approach yourself as per charts. That's what I do. I don't get hung up on these bugs.

Btw, that's one of the advantages of having Navigraph charts integration with the WT CJ4: I'll call up the relevant approach plate on the MFD and get all the info I need. I usually just ignore ATC instructions until I get the cleared to land, I land, then atc gives me guicance to taxi to a gate or a parking spot. Works for me.

Some developer releases "Chaseplane for ATC", with natural sounding voices, correct procedurals, an up to date UI, perhaps even a few regional accents - I'd be on this addon like white on rice.

Finally: Being able to read and understand charts and procedures is key to enjoying the sim and emancipating yourself from wacky ATC instructions.

Avliasoft EFB gives you all the charts and approaches that are in your simulator, plus a moving map that shows exactly where you are on the departure and approach. I don't have to subscribe to any charts, I have them every time I fly.

...is when you start getting wacky altitudes: descend and maintain 8000 feet, then: climb to 9000 feet.

You know that you'll end up on the side of a mountain, so it's time to cancel IFR, bring out the trusty approach charts, and fly the procedure yourself, using default ATC for a bit of aural immersion.

Helps to avoid a 3 hour flight going paws up.

When it tries to send you and your Cub into low orbit is also a good sign that something is wrong.
"Cub xy climb and maintain flight level 100k, traffic WAY up is ESPN satellite, report them in sight."

No way this is true.. really? Last week I checked out the POSCON map and it had like 8 pilots online while VATSIM had 600. I’m down to give it a shot & I’ve been excited at the prospect of this network existing for a while, but it’s less appealing when nobody else is using it. That’s the issue - nobody wants to switch unless everyone switches lol 🙂

If it gains some traction in coming weeks I’ll try it out!

To be fair to VATSIM, they recently updated their voice server and it works much better now with no latency.

Yes, it's true, really.  I've been in the community for over 40 years and I don't think it's a stretch to say that many in the community would tell you I have a reputation for unwavering ethics and honesty (comes from my southern family with hundreds of years of military service - I too am retired military) and since i work with many different developers I get to see things that the public doesn't.  When I make absolute statements, you can bet they have been vetted.

I can't share the data I've seen, it's propritary.  I'm just reporting on it.  500+ experienced controllers have signed onboard and are helping ot set things up, and the pilots have and will continue to follow.  I'm not saying it doesn't take time, POSCON has been working for years to make this happen, and it's an amazing network compared to anything our community has ever had.  Have faith.
