Sweet Flight

Featured Replies

Just had a very nice flight. No immersion breakers, no stutters and frames maintained.
The real weather was 'orrible so I went with a "few clouds". Took off from Courchevel LFLJ in a stock C172 and navigated down the valleys to Grenoble and then arrived at LFHE, a grass strip called Saint Paul. It took about 35 minutes which is an ideal length of time for me. If I sit down for any longer than that my wife starts making unreasonable demands.

For me there are some areas that really let this sim down but there are plenty of other places that fly like a dream. Mountains with occasional towns and villages are my favourite places to fly and most of them fly sweet..

I have an old PC and an entirely average video card. On the plus side, I am getting on a bit and my eyesight is correspondingly bad on detail so I can wind down the render scaling. The flight was faultless as far as I could see.

MSFS 2020

i7-4790k @ 4.4ghz for the moment. Asus z87-k mobo. GTX 1080, 32gb ram. couple of SSDs....Saitek X52

What I can't figure out is I can go days and days with no problems at all, and then a day like 2 days ago where everything goes wrong. It started with me trying to taxi out, and hitting one of those push back vehicles and the sim crashed. Somehow collision was on in MSFS, and I never use that, so it turned on by itself. Then a AMD driver timeout, followed 20 minutes later by a CTD. Each time having to restart PC and MSFS. Then I launch the flight again, and my Track IR won't connect, and yes I launched it before MSFS. Restart again. Then on 20 mile final, and the sim freezes, twice, in just about the same spot.

Since then I have had about 10 flights with zero problems.  I still think this is some kind of server issue.

I had the same thing happen to me the other day. I never had it happen before with my old Vega64. I am running the latest AMD drivers. Is this something new?

It just happened that one day. I have had a timeout once in awhile, but never a couple in one day. I am using what is supposed to be their most reliable drive too, which was installed by CLX, the people that built my PC  2020   20-11-2 .

I am with you here, Gary. I do short flights, less than 100 nm, handflying the Corsair or the Xcub these last few days and have, as you say, a sweet time. Today one flight in volcanic Indonesia with a rough weather, one in the Philippines and one in France between Nantes and Belle-Ile.

Some flaws are really a pain (ESC bug, no decent weather briefing, no traffic to be on the safe side etc.) but after I get busy in the cockpit, it is a nice simming experience most of the time.

Actually the only hardware issue I have with my 8 year-old computer is when the 4G connection weakens too much. Today I pushed the terrain slider to 100 to 130 and everything stayed smooth.
