May 30, 20215 yr I am currently setting up a P3d v4 installation and while doing testing I had several instances of my sounds being dampened when using the ATC menu. It would start with Atis report, come back to normal volumes after a delay, dampen again when using ATC. Is this a known bug in version 4? Has anyone experienced this and fixed it? I am using an AMD B450 mobo with E241i-B1 AMD High Definition Audio if that helps. Thanks.
May 30, 20215 yr This is a known bug with Windows 10, actually. I don't remember if there's an actual fix, but some people here were discussing about this issue. May 30, 20215 yr Author I checked my AMD sound chip option in P3d settings. It seemed to help. I also have related. Not sure why mu PC camecwith two sound chips. So far P3d 4 seems to be resource hogging and Buggy. FSX SE runs better although version 4 looks better with UTX, FTX Global and Base, and buildings HD. Using fsrealwx 30 day trial. I think that's resource hungry itself.
May 30, 20215 yr It's a bug in the Win 10 "sound ducking" feature. If you search for that term, you'll find some discussion on it here and elsewhere. I ended up making the HDMI sound device on my 55" TV my default Windows sound device, and then assigned the Creative XFi device explicitly to P3D. The ducking feature only affects the default device, so the XFi that the sim uses is no longer affected. Most PCs have multiple sound devices available, especially since any recent nVidia GPU will have a discrete HD sound device in addition to whatever is already in the PC. Some folks have had success by resetting the Windows communication settings at the start of each session...that did not work for me. The device reassignments did. May 30, 20215 yr I have also read about changing from "Do Nothing" to "Reduce volume by x%" and back in Windows communication settings, but it only works one time before running P3D; when I reset my PC, the problem appears again when I run P3D. It's silly that one needs to change the setting each time before using P3D, don't you think? This must be related to some Windows update, because I can't remember this being a problem a few months ago.

Don't understand why it loses the setting, but weirdly FS + External ATC doesn't have the issue. Do it automatically now before I launch p3d and know I'm good to go.... May 31, 20215 yr Author It happened to me during taxi at KCXY, near Harrisburg, PA. I clicked tower and nothing. I tried to tune atis and nothing. ATC frozen. Well, as I am still learning and experimenting with P3d 4.5 and had 0 airtraffic set I broke FAA regs and took runway 8 anyway. I took off and flew runway heading for about 4 miles then I banked left at 2000 msl to 355. As I approached Blue Mountain a thought occured to me. I opened menu bar and click select vehicle and reloaded the Commander, same livery. So I banked left again to about 220. I just got Orbx freeware airports and saw n74 Carlisle on the list and wanted to see it. So I passed HAR and followed 81 south. I pass that airport every day. I know the roads. I flew I.F.R. I Follow Roads. When I opened ATC and clicked n74 airport selection bingo, I had unicom and made my approach and landing. Moral of this story. Sometimes reloading the aircraft fixes everything. BTW. Orbx rendition of n74 is spot on. Looks right like it.
