Everyone needs to watch the video that Nyxx linked.  70% price increase over the 3080 for less than 10% performance gain.

Not even that for me MSFS 1440p 3080Ti +2.2 FPS thats £345 per frame!

I aware of the debates around the validity of VRAM usage numbers.  MSFS dev mode provides the tools to show "actual" vs. "allocated" so the prevailing myth from popular YouTubers that VRAM usage is NOT accurate and we don't need cards with more than 8GB VRAM is false (at least when it comes to flight simulators).  RTSS and internal metrics (P3D and XP and MSFS provide their own) of actual vs allocated are very close to what RTSS reports.

I come at this question from a slightly different angle. I absolutely believe that MSFS is “using” the extra VRAM you throw at it in some sense. But what does that mean for a user not looking at the numbers? Does it affect FPS? Long frames/stutters? Something else? And in each of those cases, are we talking about a qualitative or quantitative difference? Maybe I’ve missed it, but I haven’t even really seen a discussion of that (at least with MSFS), much less answers. I genuinely don’t know.

Compared with P3D and FSX before it, I see very few stutters in MSFS. When I do, it’s almost always in one of three situations: 1) particular cockpits that are “heavy,” especially the 787 (this seems like a techical issue that can be fixed), 2) on the ground at airports (others have noted this and again, seems like a technical issue that may be fixable), and 3) flying over dense photogrammetry like London, Tokyo, etc. Would more VRAM solve any of those stutters? All of them?

Finally, even if VRAM solves some quantum of stutters, what’s the value proposition? If I can only get more VRAM for a $1000 premium and it would make my experience 10% better, does that make any sense at all?

(Of course, this is all academic anyway. Who can get new GPUs these days?)

Try ordering one at that price.

Use the drop down window and see the uplift from a 3080

£600, that’s on top of a 3080 price. The 3090 is only £150 more than the 3080Ti

Rob, I agree VRAM is always good to have for flight sims.

I can't even get this card.  Stupid Nvidia's logistics and Scalpers....sigh...been eyeing 3090 for a while (I need retail price not scalper price)...

Lovely graphics though

AMD MSI 6900 XT in stock a snip at £1949.99, Gaming PCs are getting expensive with the industry warning of hardware price increase in the future.

This RX 6800 XT Red Devil just beat my RTX 3090 😱 - YouTube

Way to expensive imo.

For years a top of the line GFX was around £400-£500 and a top line PC with the best GFX was around £1300-1500.

Getting a 3080-3080Ti-3090 is so hard and when I did see by pure chance OCUK had 9 ASUS 3090 for sale they where £2500. They sold out in the day. They might well have a RRP £1350 but GL to anyone getting one for RRP.

You can get the cards at the "right price" if you order a full PC

But still the price if over the top to me. I paid £3025 for my PC by far the most Ive ever paid. Painful.

But here I speced a close PC and look at the price with a 3090. To buy a 3080-3080Ti-3090 as a stand alone is almost impossable and very over the top price wise. Blame cars they say....

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ocuk-gaming-germanium-z5-gaming-pc-intel-core-i9-10900k-geforce-rtx-3000-series-fs-1ec-og.html#t=b5c3d4f9

My Spec would add another £150 to that, so £4,400. But a 3090 if bought alone would be £2500 ^^.

PC's and cards imo are crazy pricers.

If someone came and had a go on my PC etc and said i would love to get into the flight siming, and asked "how much would it cost to buy a set up like yours?"  I would be embarrased. Then people complain about £10 for an addon. Funny lot us flight simers.

If people are running 1440p with a 2080Ti then imo they can pass on 3000 cards. 4k and then for the first time the 3090 cards can truly play at 4k.

I would never use a AMD card,

@Rob_Ainscough I do hope you can get to publish your work for MSFS asap, I am sure it will add a lot to the sim. I wish you all the best with it and hope the changers to the SDK come sooner than later to you and other developers.

Oh well, another year of waiting for a new gcard for my 1 year old 10700k build. I originally had hopes for the 20GB 3080 Ti, and even may have settled for 12GB, but that foreshortened vram coupled with a "starting at" $1,200 price and practically nonexistent availability is a deal-breaker.  What remains to be seen is that will the high-end gcard market ever really recover from its current state of desperation (which unfortunately now also spans into everything needing silicon).

The 70% figure depends on how you calculate it. With the 3080Ti being 1,199 and the 3080 being 699 (yes suggested retail), the price difference is 500. So 500/699 = ‭0.715 or 71.5% more; the other way is 500/1199= .417 or 41.7%.  Who knows what it would be on the open market? 😞

Is that a typo?

MSI Radeon RX 6900 XT GAMING Z TRIO 16GB Graphics Card | Ebuyer.com

And in stock, I think both AMD and Nvidia now have an approach if they will pay it charge it, the bar has now been set and some will be priced out of the PC Gamer build, they now know they can charge more and users will pay anything for the best.
