Custom Keyboard Assignment Problem

Featured Replies

I am trying to make some custom keyboard assignments for use in the PMDG DC-6 specifically for the Ctrl + 0 though Ctrl + 9 cockpit views. I am specifically trying to do what RSR showed in the tutorial video, where he changed those to just the 0 to 9 keys, but those changes are not responsive inside the cockpit. If anyone has an idea as to what I may be missing I would appreciate it. It seems like I am assigning them correctly so I am not sure what the issue can be. I was able to change so that I can use the "S" key for the spot plane view, and that worked without a hitch.

Cheers, Pete

Make sure those keys are not used somewhere else - clear filters - search all and see if key commands you want to use are not being used - if so you need to clear them out if you wish to do that

Hi Pete,

I use the number pad for my cockpit views and it is more convenient to press one key than two to access the view.

I made the changes way back at the release so I hope I can help you.

I had to eliminate all the original key assignments of the number pad.

Then selected CTRL+ALT + number pad key. Pressing the number pad key brings up the desired view.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

I see, so when I select the custom key command it doesn’t overwrite the original? Assuming so, is there an easy way to locate which commands are currently tied to the num 0 - 9 keys so that I can delete the default assignments? Thanks for your assistance!

A lot of functions on the default keyboard layout are devoid of assignments. Does that mean that those functions cannot be assigned to keys in the sim yet?

Nope your all set you can bind to any unused slots with any key no problem

OK, Thanks. Now if I could find a source that would help we GA pilots clarify what some of those rather opaque unused terms and definitions actually mean, or refer to.....

Hi Pete

Open the Controls panel - Open Controls Options - Open Camera

Open Instruments Views (and NOT Cockpit Camera)

Look for the Toggle Instrument View <number>

The first column is filled with a CNTRL <number>, fill the second column with a numpad number (or any key you want)  with the search/select an input function.

Thanks, I got this to work yesterday after several failed attempts due to my own ignorance. After a while I realized that I was mapping to the wrong commands! As you wrote above, I kept improperly trying to map to the cockpit camera and finally it dawned on me that I needed to map to the instruments views. I guess that's what happens when there are too many different commands that sound the same and you don't take a step back to make sure you are seeing them correctly! Anyway, all is well now.

Cheers, Pete

Any advice for gaming laptop users?

I tried doing this, thought it would be nice to only need one keypress to change views, but sadly if you have a laptop you first have to check the state of the NUM-LOCK key. On my laptop there's no indicator light for that, so you have to cycle the key, which takes several keypresses to activate the NUMBER keys. Instead of one keypress, it ends up costing you three or four.

The keypad also has the Insert key on NUM-0 key, and End key on NUM-1, which are the ones you need to change from the External view to the Drone view.
