MSFS not returning to main menu

Featured Replies

MSFS is working well for me, however, the only issue I have is when I complete (or abandon) a flight and want to return to the main menu on the welcome page, MSFS closes instead. This is not like a CTD, it exits cleanly. When I remove the Community folder, MSFS will return to the main menu, as expected, so the issue is obviously being created by one of my addons. Before testing each addon, one at a time, I thought checking herr to see if this was a known issue would be worthwhile. Does anyone know if there's a specific addon causes this behaviour?

The FS Academy VFR / IFR addons were causing this for me.  Updated them both and doesn't happen anymore.  So, if you have either of those....I'd start there.

quickest to find the culprit is the 50 / 50 method.

take half your mods out and try. no crash, then it is  in the taken out half.

so put talf of that part back, etc etc, takes least amount of starts to find something.

kinda like a binary search method,  only do that if no on has a suggestion, like above post.

How about using the Addons Linker app to accomplish that?  Makes it quick and simple.  Personally I use that app and position only those Community folder contents I need for each respective flight.  And if flying more than one flight I exit and restart the sim.

ofcourse i took that as  default usage, it still means you have to startup the sim a few times, and with this method you are garantueed to do that the least amount of times.

@FakeWayne - Thanks for suggesting this as this was what was causing the problem for me too. I simply removed the FS Academy IFR folder from the Community folder, fired up a flight in MSFS and then abandoned it. Now I'm returned back to the Main Menu. MSFS does not exit anymore.

@wim123 and @fppilot - thanks for the suggestions about the "binary search" method and using Addon Linker app. I'll be sure to use them if I get more issues like this. It will save a lot of time!

Hi there,

Our IFR pack was causing a similar issue after the USA update, but this was rectified immediately and is no longer an issue since the update was made last year.

Update to latest versions if FS Academy packs are causing this problem.

Just a final note to say I was using V1.0.0 of the FS Academy IFR package. I've updated to the current version: 1.3.0  and the problem has gone away. Thanks also to @FS Academy for their very fast support, when I emailed them

I find that when I go back to menu or restart it totally crashes my system and it takes sometime for it to restart. Could this be a graphics card problem? Is it a system problem? or is there something in MSFS that gives the wrong reset address to the system? It even does it when I run it without community files added.  Any ideas?
