Propliners over the Atacama

Propliners over the Atacama

The tour starts in Chile at Antofagasta (SCFA) on the Pacific coast and has one stop at Calma (SCCF).  The final leg will require climbing to 20,000 and finding a safe route across the 112 mile long chain of stratovolcanoes east of San Pedro de Altacama.  Our destination Salta (SASA) is at 4,044 feet and will require some descent planning.

Flightplan: Here.

This route was planned as a challenge for the Douglas DC-6 pilots, but as always you are free to fly what you like.    The first leg is pretty straight forward but the leg from Calma (SCCF) to Salta (SASA) will require managing climb and cruise to 20,000 while avoiding steadily rising terrain.  DC-6 pilots may want to watch the following tutorial videos.

What's with your predilection with South America. Did your mother have a holiday fling with a gaucho? 😏

Too bad there is no DC6 proxy in MSFS.. the 777s look a bit out of place..

Unfortunately i won't get to see the Atacama and the Andean Peaks due to work.  One of the worlds largest open pit copper mines is due north of  Calama.  Chuquicamata was a town that the mine swallowed up.

I did fly the first leg yesterday evening  and it looked great.

I did the flight today, it was a great challenge and good fun managing the engines!
