What Happens When MSFS Loads Scenery/Airports?

Featured Replies

I have probably 50 or so airports in the Community folder, from around the World.

If I load a Flight Plan for, say, Orly to Hamburg, does MSFS load all the Community airports & world wide scenery, or just the material that is relevant to the Flight Plan?

I suspect the former as I am finding it is taking longer & longer for a flight to load, after I have added more scenery/airports.

There are various programs that let you organize scenery into regions & you can choose a region to load. I tried one very early on after MSFS's release, but it ended up a mess after an MSFS update.

Do they shorten the load up time?

Has anyone found a scenery organization program that could cope with MSFS updates in the scenario where I rename my Community folder prior to running the update, then change the name back to 'Community', after the update?

What seems to work well, is to use MSFS Addons Linker for all your sceneries, so your Community folder has no content, other than links.

1. You can enable or disable airports with a mouse click before your flight

2. No need to rename your Community folder before an update

To your question.. I am sure that MSFS has to read through anything that you have in that folder at load time, so yes, reducing the number of items should reduce load times..  😉

As for actually loading an airport, I believe we were told that anything further away than 50 nm from your current location is not loaded into the sim.

Agreed Bert.  I currently don't have too big a load in my community folder but I'm ensuring that my addons are named in such a way I can turn on and off whole countries so that I don't load or the sim doesn't spend time loading stuff I'm not going to use...hope it works in the end.  The sim linker tool is perfect for this.

the Addons Linker is the way to go. Incredibly useful and pretty simple to use. Plus, it let's you make all your own decisions and is not over fussy like at least one of the other similar tools.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used
