MSFS Hardware Shortage & Bitcoin Mining

Recommended Posts

Global Chip Supply shortage had a far greater impact than mining.  Mining sucked up what was available and drove up prices but the reason what has been available is so minimal is the global semiconductor shortage.  That has impacted everything from Auto Production to GPU's to XRay machines...  If it has a chip in it chances are it is backlogged.  What is transpiring in the auto industry is an indicator of how bad it is/was.  My local Porsche dealer normally has 200 cars on the lot, now they have 18 mostly pre-owned.  Just try to get a deal on a car right now, you are lucky to pay sticker and Used are over NADA which is UNHEARD of.   NADA is the bible and most lenders will only lend NADA value leaving customers to make up the difference themselves.

My company has arguably (and recognized globally) the best supply chain in the world and I can't ship product for 60-120 days at best, some lead times are almost 6 months.  It's much larger than mining and the factory fire overseas took a toll on a lot of companies.

Also, this isn't exclusive to MSFS so perhaps this is more of a Hangar Chat conversation as it impacts everyone on any sim looking for HW.

You're absolutely right, the global chip shortage has had a massive impact across various industries, from gaming to automobiles. It's been a challenging time for supply chains worldwide.

At least not in South America: no MSFS, no X-plane, no P3D... nothing with Flight in the title! Maybe the open-world architecture of these sims is not compatible with GeForce now?

MSFS scenery is more than 2 PB and cannot reside on the client PC or on the remote nVidia server, it can only be streamed.

Playing MSFS on GeforceNow would require a commitment from nVidia side to dedicate bandwidth towards Bing/MS, in addition to the bandwidth needed for the streaming.

Everything is possible but in my opinion it's unlikely to happen.

Streaming of X-Plane and P3D would be feasible instead.

It’s up to Geforce to add it to their library. But MSFS is available on X-Cloud (Microsoft's cloud gaming service) for a while now.

Yes, but the trick would be to run it at the cloud servers and be able to get good performance even on low-end machines...

And to be able to use it with any controller setup. The last time I tried MSFS Cloud, it only accepted XBox controller, with the setup they have. I couldn't even use the mouse for selecting items in panel!
