August 2, 20214 yr From my perspective, it was a misstep, but if they correct it within 2 months (3 max), it will remain just a misstep. If they release future patches that are reasonably similar to their more stable patches that didn't break the dev environment, then it will have been fixed. If they continue down this route for 6 months, people will probably get tired of it and stop buying as much 3PD addons. No-one knows what they will do next, it could go either way. One thing for certain, they need to lock the dev environment down much more and stop making changes JUST for the sake of making changes. Any changes to the environment need to have solid "last resort" type of mentality, not a hey let's move this dropdown box here cause it might look better, and I don't think this arrow should be here anymore. While I'm at it, let me rename this file to do this, yada yada. Because that's what they did this version. AMD 5800x | Nvidia 3080 (12gb) | 64gb ram

There are people on here that say there setting are sticking and I have no reason to think there not right but a lot concore they thought they where running High end or Ultra and it turns out there not. Good point. I saw the thread, and the bit about your test at East Midlands Airport. To me, mine looks like ultra, and all of the settings definitely stick in the user config unless I change a specific setting in the sim, in which case the next time I look in the config file, I see only that specific part is changed (obviously I do not write protect the file). So the long and short of it is, I need to test, so I will tonight. I haven't seen any of those white walled buildings/warehouses though like in your photo. I flew into the Orbx Salzburg last night and saw the building textures from as far as I could see, no white blank walls - but that is just one airport, and a 3rd party one at that. It is another mystery why my settings have always held in my config file, but not for others. I have Windows store premium edition, but have it installed on a separate m.2 drive. It is another mystery to be solved why this sim responds so differently to different people; it doesn't help us when we are trying to find common solutions. Yer it does not show you when using addon airports. Setting have always stuck untill this update, untill you run the test, then you will know if they still are. I hope yours do. Make sure to follow how the test is done. Edited August 2, 20214 yr by Nyxx David Murden. The Series X outclasses the Series S, and it gets better graphics already. Similarly, "cutting edge" PCs get more than the Series X does. They're not just clamping everything to the lowest common denominator, in spite of what some folks here may have you believe. What has happened with this update is that headroom was made to support those devices, and some people find the compromises made to make that happen to be unsatisfactory. Without commenting on the merit of those complaints, I can say that there is absolutely no reason that that headroom can't be used to add capability for those with high end PCs, more even than they had before, which will make everyone happy. (There were also the bugs to be found in any major overhaul. These will be found and fixed, too.) Whether or not you think that will actually happen is up to you and your level of cynicism. Believe me, I want it as much as anyone -- I would love to see more of the VRAM in my 3090 used to reduce the pop-in at the edges, because right now it hardly breaks a sweat. I have confidence further enhancements will come, and I'm not letting current inconveniences get my blood pressure up to the point where I'm spewing venom everywhere about it. There's more important things. Like building the NXi. 😄 Besides, even with whatever its current flaws may be, and without discounting those who are frustrated, this sim is still the most gorgeous thing flight simulation has ever had, IMO. (Clouds look a bit blown out, but most of that is due to the tone-mapping from HDR.) Edited August 2, 20214 yr by kaosfere
