August 17, 20214 yr I had the weirdest thing happen to me yesterday: On a flight yesterday afternoon (8/16) I was doing a flight from Nantucket MA to Quonset RI in the Bonanza with real weather and real AI. It was a pleasant flight with light winds (5-7 knots) and light clouds. The flight progressed smoothly at about 3000 ft. I was given pattern entry downwind left traffic RWY 16. I entered the pattern and when I was at an altitude of about 1000-500 ft. all of a sudden the sea graphic change abruptly from glass smooth to dark gray with whitecaps. It just popped in. I flew base leg and on final I noticed that winds where at 67 knots! I don't remember the exact compass heading they where coming from but I had a hard time making headway to the runway and I was crabbing so badly that I was almost perpendicular to the runway. If it weren't for having crash detection turned off I would have seen the "black screen of death". As soon as i got the wheels on the runway, the wind reverted to about 4 knots. Weird! So I ask: Real weather or Bug? I think bug but I am not sure. I have very few problems with MSFS and am enjoying veru much when I get a chance to fly. August 17, 20214 yr BUG!. You can expect 67kt winds close to the surface when a hurricane is hitting the area 🙂 or at higher altitudes while in the jetstreams. I have noticed these anomalies from time to time. I can't wait for Asobo to open up the weather engine so that folks from ActiveSky and others can come and rescue the weather engine. August 17, 20214 yr Author That's what I figured. It was interesting nonetheless! I used active sky in FS2004 and FSX and I really liked it. But what I would really like to see is Asobo getting it right. The few times I used Live weather in MSFS I only saw the lightning anomaly. I truly want to see this sim mature to the point where all that is needed are planes and specialty sceneries. Joe Get used to disappointment - The Dread Pirate Roberts
August 17, 20214 yr What I understand (important caveat) is that airport weather is from METAR (real) and everywhere else MFS generates a weather based on MeteoBlue (predictions). That would explain if justify the abrupt change during your final approach if the weather deteriorated rapidly. 67 knots is indeed a little excessive 😅 but it can be windy there ! Now I have a question. Your avatar was shot before or after this tumultuous landing ? Dominique, It was shot during!😮😁 But the minute the plane settled on the runway, the wind dropped to a reasonable 4 knots. Wouldn't that be metar also? Joe The METAR was maybe wrong or more certainly wrongly interpreted by MFS. By the way how did you get the 67 knots figure ? ATIS ? August 17, 20214 yr A number of months ago there were thunderstorms in real life in the vicinity of the Florida airport that I wanted to fly from. The MSFS flight planner said the winds were 8 knots and weather was okay for flying. I start up parked with engine off but my propeller is windmilling. I start the engine and start to taxi and my little C172 weather vanes into the wind and starts being driven backwards and I can't fight it (like you could in FSX) and it crashes me. Real life thunderstorms do have exceptional winds sometimes and I dont know if the sim was just trying to replicate that but the flight planner should have told me and it didn't. The system is currently quite bugged what with the return of lightning everywhere... and apparently crazy winds. One of these days they'll nail it down - I hope. and I don't know why it is but the lightning issue seems to jump from one geographical area to another. sometimes the US is fine and I hear complaints about lightning that I never see. but now its back in the US again. maybe I should go to Europe or Asia. It worked last time. Edited August 17, 20214 yr by sightseer | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. There's always a sunset happening somewhere in the world that somebody is enjoying.
August 17, 20214 yr That typhoon that hit Shanghai last month seemed to match closely in the sim. Comparing winds in sim to what the internet could tell me was actually happening there. Edited August 17, 20214 yr by Tuskin38

And is the creator working on a mod? I am using that mod but have not experienced the issue (so far).
