What did I do wrong--mods not appearing

Featured Replies

I just tried to install two mods for the 787.  I extracted the .zip or .rar files and put those folders into the Community folder.  The livery does not appear when I launch MSFS, nor does the Heavy Division mod.  What might I be doing wrong?  MSFS was shut down prior to adding these to the Community folder.

Thanks in advance

Check to see if there are no nested folders within those two. Each should contain layout.json, manifest.json plus the sub-folders.

Better still, use the excellent/free Addons Linker (from flightsim.to) to manage all your addons. It'll make future additions a breeze.

Thanks, it was the nested folders issue!

Cheers

Haha, I thought you had been around long enough not to have been caught by that one.  I must admit to having made that mistake more than once though.

Yes I've been around too long apparently as I'm starting to forget stuff .  I guess when the unarchive yielded just one folder I figured that must be it and I didn't know about the .json files to look for so there you have it!

Does the Heavy Division mod actually make the stock 787 flyable? I've been avoiding the 787 until some decent mod came around.

It certainly did (I read from others), however I think it needs more work to grapple w/ SU5.  The latest file is from 7/13/21.  I did only one flight and not knowing what to compare it to some things worked as expected others, like presumably the glass avoinics offers a top-down moving map (I say that because my departure gate view top down at KDEN was there at startup) but that didn't work so could not see my route to KSFO as my maiden flight in this plane.  I was stoked to discover how good performance is in it and it is.  Hopefully they will get back to it and fix what broke in SU5 then it will be pretty decent I feel.  Also, for whatever reason the plane during taxi would barely turn w/ the usual yoke inputs (no pedals here) that work very well on small planes, perhaps I had to reset sensitivity of the big 787.  Also, I could start the engines but the EICAS didn't display anything initially until I slewed it then all of a sudden it came to life.  Could be I hit a button that woke it up as I really don't know the plane I just used knowledge from the PMDG NGXu/777.

I have tried taxing a couple of weeks ago with my Logitech pedals and it also behaved like this, I wasn't able to get myself out of the B terminal straight onto the taxiway. Can this sensitivity be set on per aircraft basis? Please let me know if you are able to get this sorted 🙂

I guess you're saying the unmodded 787-10 behaved the same then?  I was contemplating trying the unmodded original but I guess that's not going to work either.  Did the moving map work for you?

Yep unmodded. I didn't pay attention to the moving map, but I can check it out tonight and report back.

Now that I think of it I had taxi'd successfully yesterday unmodded.  I think I'll try one more unmodded test flight as well.  Maybe the mod needs adjusted sensitivies I don't know.
