A relatively moderate 3.0 could be a big improvement without much performance impact. The 3070 is basically the same non RT performance as a 2080ti, but with only 8Gb RAM, so in the same rough ball park as the 2080 Super if your not ray tracing. Running straight off the shelf Ultra settings in game at 1440p I was getting anywhere from 50 FPS up to maybe 90 FPS after SU5. Wow nice! You’re not locking your FPS at least at 60 though? Why not? Well those are the numbers if I run generic Ultra from the game menu with no frame limiting. Ultra is not max settings though. However in reality I rarely run generic "Ultra" unless testing things, I usually go higher in normal play. What I actually do most of the time is set the LODs higher than Ultra, up around 350 to 450, the render scale higher than Ultra (usually around 120-130 % though currently 100 with the lights bug) to get sharper cockpits, take caching to Ultra and max out the shadow sliders. Once I have tweaked all that to higher than Ultra, I then limit frames to a fraction of my native monitor frequency (144hz) usually either 36 FPS (one quarter of 144) or 48 FPS (one third of 144). Note that all those numbers are at 1440p not at 4K or in VR , Playing on a 1440p monitor seems to still be the optimal resolution for MSFS on a mid-range or lower-highend system if you want really good performance. I do run the sim at 1440p also 60 hz tv even my windows are running at 3640x2160 4K native. If I change the windows resolution to 1440p then my tv goes to 30hz. Locked max fps in NV control panel at 40 fps.
