Terrain pre-caching thread

Featured Replies

Just wondered if we could have a dedicated thread for this new option rather than have pearls of wisdom lost in other threads.

How are you finding it?

OK.

I think we need it.

Thank you.

No performance hit for me at all on Ultra. I can spin my head around and everything is crisp and clear with no popping at all. So far, it's great.

What are your LOD settings? and are you running the sim in 4k?

ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU

Panning is smooth again on Ultra. Thanks for listening, Asobo!

I'm at 200 in the sim and have not touched my cfg file as I don't have to. Not running in 4K.

So how high can we push these LODs before stuttering occurs?  Just to see?  Great from Asobo though.  I'm still wanting crisper distant textures.

FOR ME SMOOTH as anything when panning. 4k 3080 gpu all ultra pre-set nothing changed.

Waiting for my update to finish. I'm curious to know how the ultra setting for terrain pre caching will perform under 4k Custom Ultra settings for me. I'm running LOD 4.5 for both object and terrain. They also noted that PG loads out much further out in the distance now which means I don't think that PG is tied to the LOD settings anymore.

I am crisp all the way to the horizon and as smooth as Barry White here. It's really impressive.

 - I was getting all the popping before btw.

I'm at 3840 x 2160. I have run at 4k and it looked great but to be honest most of the time I forget and it looks great anyway.
