Terrain pre-caching thread

Featured Replies

Looking good with general settings on high and terrain pre-caching on ultra.

Running 4k.and was seeing 30-40 FPS with the demo flights. Going to try it now with frames locked to 30 as soon as the world update stuff finishes downloading.

I just try the game at ESSA with all at Ultra as before, and with pre-caching at Ultra, and it was a slideshow for me, even at medium.

Have you all try this at busy high-level airports?

At first it was a bit of a slideshow for me too, but just waiting a little bit, looking around, letting the scenery load in every direction, and FPS went from around 27 to 45 on the ground when in cockpit view. 50+ in external view. I tried at KTMB Miami Executive (modded) as well as KJFK (detailed by default).

Airborne is still a lot smoother though, around 65 FPS in complex areas (NYC, Miami)

I will empty my community folder and try again, it was terrible in external view for me.

I´ve just ended a short trip from ESSA and it looked fine for me. On the tarmac i got 52-53 fps with everyting in ultra including pre-cache. I have a 10800 K, 32 GB ram at 3200 and a RTX3070 and a 2K screen. I hope you get that sorted out. Keeping my fingers crossed!

That's weird, are you logged into your account?

It didn't ask me for any money.

I am scared to do this update LOL

I fired up the sim first thing before the update hit here in Canada and I'm on my 2nd trip of the day in the A32NX. I have racked up quite a few hours since SU5 and for me with my moderate system and decent enough settings have had the best experience in MSFS 2020 since the launch. I do not try to run everything in Ultra, I spent a great deal of time testing how far I could push my 1080TI when I picked up a 43" 4K TV about a week ago. I went in with really low expectations but have been pleasantly surprised how it is coping. I really am enjoying the sim at the moment.

Maybe I will just leave my PC on for all eternity and never quit MSFS lol

I can understand your reasoning, but this update went very nicely so far for me at least. I had to install Xbox App from MS Store itself to get it to download though.

For some reason it seems like Pre-Caching on Ultra results in a smoother experience and higher FPS than lower settings. At least in iFlySimX's video. So don't be worried about turning it up and experiment with it.

In cockpit view it is ok for me, but panning in external view at airports are a slidshow even at low settings.
