Terrain pre-caching thread

One question about LOD:

Which LOD slider deals with trees? Buildings seems pretty good at 200 after the WU6 update, but I want trees to go further out.

Edit: I think I found out, it's the Terrain LOD.

Tree distance is tied to the Terrain LOD slider.  Not sure if this effects Photogrammetry trees or not though...

Thanks!

It seems like Photogrammetry goes out further now by default after WU6. At least that's what I could tell. I could see the Miami skyline at LOD 200 from KTMB Miami Executive, which I couldn't with LOD 350/350 pre WU6.

That's mentioned in the patch release notes.

Got LOD set to 200 and Precaching set to Ultra. Rockin' a GTX 970 and it's ultra smooth for me.

It's a bit weird, both of your systems have plenty of headroom.

I'm at 12 GB RAM and 8.6 GB VRAM usage in Miami with the Carenado Seneca.

You've probably been asked this, but have you tried emptying the cache and rebuilding it?

I don't use the rolling cache.

Now I have tried everything, have uninstalled everything except vanilla game, and nothing works, it is a slideshow of 2-3 fps on the runnway until I get up in the air and everything gets smooth as butter, so there is only reinstallation left for me to try, I had a power outage just when the first installation was done from Steam, probably some file became corrupt then.

Okay, it doesn't seem like it helped by Ixoye's account anyway:

Good luck dude, I wish I had any more suggestions.

I've gone back to Medium terrain cache..  If you haven't tried this before, try it now.

I think if you use a LOD of around 4.0, which is I think necessary for my sim, then it's trying to hold a lot more in VRAM by using ultra so it was a stutter fest (2.0 was smooth as silk, but I don't want 2.0)

Stunning update, with no apparant hit on performance...

No performance hit for me at all on Ultra. I can spin my head around and everything is crisp and clear with no popping at all. So far, it's great.

Was panning not smooth for you before?  I only ask because you have a monster PC....  "fps are great for me" makes me question what rigs people use lol.

Let me spell it out for you so that you understand : Even on Ultra, Enabling SAM BAR makes it even smoother. Is that clear ?

Let me spell it out for you...advising people to hack their drivers is the reason why people run into trouble and blame it on the sim.  How smooth do you really need it right after the developers have implemented a UI toggle for you to dial in based on your rig and settings in today's build.  Talk about overkill, you just trying to be the cool kid on the forum with your fancy "hack"?

This whole community was founded on hacks for flight sims And I did give a warning for anyone trying this. This discussion is over. Please move on.
