D3DDRED2 - fault

What does D3DDRED2 have to do with it?

What aircraft? What drivers?

Where you able to reload from an Autosave and complete the flight?

System: P3D v5.3HF2, Intel i9-13900K, MSI 4090 GAMING X TRIO 24G, Crucial T700 4Tb M.2 SSD, Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Hero, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000Mhz RAM, Win 11 Pro 64-bit, BenQ PD3200U 32” UHD monitor, Fulcrum One yoke, Fulcrum Throttle Quadrant.

No because I have deactivated Autosave.

I got this issue yesterday with the FSLabs A319 and use the latest driver. P3D closed with the DEVICE_HUNG Message and I tried to understand that fault with AppCrashViewer. Seconds before P3D crashed I got this D3DDRED2 fault which can be seen in the log file.

@mobiel, Autosave is one of the most useful features there is. Odd that you would turn it off.

”latest” drivers is always vague. I tried 472.12 and got a DXGI crash. But with 471.96 and the Registry entries mentioned a couple of days ago I have had none. Try those.

Thanks I will try.

Yes I know Autosave is recommended BUT I got some minor stutters with it that is why I deactivated it.

It just performs the standard Save routine, nothing more. Surely the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

I've just departed EGLL for Rome. Passing the Epsom NDB the sim froze for around 3 seconds. But crucially this time there was no buzzing. Probably because I'm now on Realtek sound drivers. Encouraging.

More later on a 2 hour flight.

Morning Ray,

Have you tried with 472.12 with the same registry workaround or just stock 472.12 with no registry tweak?  It seems more and more if this wasn't introduced by the sim it was introduced by something in the latest Nvidia drivers... Do you remember the last driver version you did not have the issue?

Mornin' Paul. In answer to your first question, no. I tried the 472.12 Studio drivers with TdiDelay=0 but set as a QWORD, not DWORD entry. Had a DXGI on my first flight.

Didn't try 472.12 without any Registry hacks.

Just started my descent into Rome. All's well so far 1h 27m into the flight.

Thanks Ray, good luck with the flight!

I only asked because this thread is heavily weighing on both my driver update and 5.2 update from 4.5 as with my current setup of 4.5HF2 and 456.71 drivers I am rock solid...   I have V5 on a separate SSD and that pesky V5 icon on my desktop but yet to double click it and hesitant to upgrade drivers if this is a pervasive problem.

Thank you for all your troubleshooting efforts

Hi Paul,

Landed and taxiied to my gate without any problems. Hard to evaluate things from a single flight but I think the installation of Realtek drivers may have resolved the buzzing noise when the sim froze for 3 secs shortly after departing Heathrow. But given how hard that airport is plus 100+ Ai bringing my usual fps down to the mid 20s I think it's fair to say that scenario is working the GPU as hard as it's going to get. There were no further freezes during a 2h 05m flight.

So to summarise what seems to work for me is this:-

  • Nvidia 471.96 Game drivers seem fine for me. Later ones may be fine but I'm sticking with these for several more flights.
  • Start RegEdit in Admin mode.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
  • Right-click right pane and choose New.. DWORD (32-bit) Value
  • Name it TdrDelay. Double-click it and enter a value of 60 decimal
  • Right-click right pane and choose New.. DWORD (32-bit) Value
  • Name it TdrDdiDelay. Double-click it and enter a value of 60 decimal
  • Exit RegEdit and reboot.
  • Install Realtek sound drivers if not already installed.

I would describe these settings as the best workaround until such time as Nvidia / Microsoft / LM issue updates for DirectX.

Good luck and I hope that persuades you to give it a try.

Without restarting P3D I planned and flew to Bari - LIBD from Rome. Enroute the sim froze for a few seconds  and there was a buzzing from the speakers. It unfroze and the rest of the flight was fine. So that speaker buzzing doesn't appear related to the Realtek drivers.

But importantly, no DXGI error. If this is as bad as it gets I can live with that.

ray, IMO you should never get a buzzing sound. Something is wrong. You know you are too much the perfectionist to settle for less. See this

I have nothing special selected in Sound enhancements. I've now had this problem with both default Microsoft and Realtek drivers. It only ever happens with the freeze which I suspect is causing the engine sounds to become distorted. Blame DirectX.

You don't say if you get DXGI errors or whether you've set the Registry values above.

Hi Ray,

I have had no DXGI errors since upgrading my system , including a 1660ti GPU. I did make the registry changes before upgrading, but that made no difference until after the upgrade. My conclusion is that the regedit makes no difference. Neither do I overclock my CPU. I have locked FPS to 37, 1/2 my monitor refresh rate of 75.

I know many simmers OC their rigs. IMO it does more harm than good, at least in my case. The one surety we share is that one size does NOT fit all.
