Exhilarating. Asobo, Microsoft and the Swiss Alps

Exhilarating. Asobo, Microsoft and the Swiss Alps

A few weeks ago, Microsoft's Jörg Neumann indicated that the improved data obtained from Switzerland would allow a notable improvement in the rendition of the Alps. He had a real twinkle in his eyes.

Well, over the weekend a group of us had a great afternoon flying over the Alps. The rendition was both beautiful and exciting. And, as my friends who know the area said, "Spot on." We would like to express our thanks to the creative teams at Microsoft and Asobo for providing us with a splendid experience flying above and through the Alps.

(If you know Switzerland, you will already know where to fly. If you are not so familiar, you might want to try the route used by the AVSIM RTWR team, described in this
thread.)

Hope you enjoy all this as much as we did. --M

I hardly ever fly in Europe but your post has made me curious and I will check out Switzerland, thanks for sharing your experience!

Credits go to the Swiss government too, for releasing the exquisite Swisstopo data for free. I wish more countries would follow this initiative.

Today is the last day for the bargain Swiss airports in the marketplace, unless the sale is gone already.

Canada also has elevation data on the government website

Usage rules

Though I'm sure Asobo/Microsoft can negotiate all this.

Thank you for your post. I normally fly the fbw320 but this time I took the sr22 out for a spin following the route you provided and I have to say the scenery was breath taking, simply amazing. The only drawback was the mountains morphing as the higher resolution mesh was loading in. That being said it certainly was awesome.
