I worked at those gates for a period of time in 2016 before I retired from AA. I would have loved to have seen how this was done. That end of the terminal was pretty dumpy.

By "gates" don't they really mean "terminal"?   Because if I'm reading (and looking) at that article correctly, aren't they basically pre-fabbing sections at the end of that terminal (Terminal C), I mean they will still have jetways, right?   Or are they actually superseding the jetway system in some way?

Poor reporting as not all that unusual. Those are the lounges where pax wait for boarding. By constructing them 'off site' they managed to keep the clutter down to a more reasonable level.
